Kuwait's tenders authority has rejected the awarding of an oil contract worth more than $400 million to the lowest bidder and asked project owners to revise its decision, local newspapers reported on Monday.
Kuwait's Sayed Hamid Behbehani & Sons Co has submitted the lowest bid of around 123.8 million Kuwaiti dinars ($408 million) for a project involving supply and installation of oil wellhead equipment for the state-owned Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), Alanba and Alrai Arabic language newspapers said.
KOC decided to award the deal to this firm but the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) rejected its request and asked it to consider awarding the contract to the second or third lowest bidders, the papers said, quoting a KOC source.
"CAPT rejected KOC's request and asked it to extend the bids of the bidding firms to 10 more days so it will select either the second or third bidder," the report said without mentioning reasons for CAPT's decision.
Alghanim international of Kuwait submitted the second lowest bid of 127.8 million Kuwaiti dinars ($421.7 million) while the third offer of 128.7 million dinars ($424.7 million) was made by Naser Al Baddah and Partner General Trading & Contracting Company, the report said, adding that KOC had pre-qualified 17 firms to bid for the project.
