The Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) is expected to award the main construction contract for its $110 million Mina Al-Ahmadi Township, located about 40-kilometre south of Kuwait City, by the first quarter of 2020, a source aware of the project has said.

"The main construction contract is expected to be awarded by third week of March 2020," the source told Thomson Reuters Projects, adding that the tender was released on 10 January 2019 with a bid submission date of 14 April 2019, which was extended seven times, the most recent being 12 January 2020.

He didn't give the reasons for the multiple extensions but said the project's completion has been postponed to March 2023 from December 2022.

(ERESCO), Kuwait Systems for General Trading & Contracting, and Al-Dar Mimar for Engineering & Construction are the firms bidding for the project, officials from the 12 companies confirmed with Thomson Reuters Projects.

The scope of work involves construction of 333 houses and a 1,000-person capacity mosque, retail units, 11 general substations, Central Utility Plants (CUP) and waste transfer terminal, a second source told Thomson Reuters Projects. He said the scope also includes the construction of high-security fence, boundary wall, communal and private parking areas, infrastructural works, installation of six transformers (11/3.3KV & 11/440KV), control room and LT room for MLTPs panels and landscaped areas and green parks.

United Engineering & Technical Consultants is the design, lead, structural and Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) consultancy services provider for the project, the second source added.
