Saudi Arabia is planning to invite bids for the construction of a new logistics zone in 2023 as part of a drive to expand its land and maritime transport sector, a Saudi official was reported on Thursday as saying.
Al-Khomra Zone is located nearly 25 km from Jeddah Islamic Port on the Western flank of the Gulf Kingdom and has been on the cards for more than three years.
“There are plans to offer this project to investors in 2023…the project is intended to turn that area into a global logistics platform,” Saudi deputy Transport and Logistics Minister Rumaih AL-Rumaih told an investment conference in Riyadh on Wednesday.
In his address, carried by the Saudi daily Al-Madina on Thursday, Rumaid said the project is part of several logistics zones to be set up by the world’s largest oil exporter, adding that it would “largely support supply chains and create new investment opportunities” in the country.
