Saudi Ceramic Co. (Saudi Ceramics) expects to commence trial and commercial production in its 249.3-million Saudi riyal ($66.42 million) porcelain tiles plant in the fourth quarter of 2024, the company said in a statement to the Saudi stock exchange.

Currently, the project is 40 percent complete but is running behind schedule, with the company stating that the delay is due to legal procedures and changes in some machines and equipment delivery as a result of external factors impacting some of its suppliers.

However, the project scope and associated costs remain the same, the statement added.

In August 2021, Saudi Ceramic announced plans to set up a new factory to produce porcelain tiles, with a production capacity of nearly 8.25 million square metres annually.

The earlier announcement said that the trial run was expected to start in the first quarter of 2023, with commercial operations likely to begin in second quarter 2023.
