Bahrain’s Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs (MEWA) received six bids from global consultants to its Request for Proposals (RFP) for the development of an electric vehicle (EV) strategy for the Kingdom.

The lowest bid was submitted by Deloitte & Touche while the highest bid was submitted by McKinsey & Company, according to Bahrain Tender Board notice.

The details of the six bids are as follows:

  • McKinsey & Company (562,800 Bahraini dinars or $1.5 million)
  • Oliver Wyman (BHD 517,000 or $1.4 million)
  • Arthur D Little (Bahrain) (BHD 435,158 or $1.2 million)
  • Egis International (BHD 174,685.720 or $463,391.26)
  • PricewaterhouseCoopers Bahrain (BHD 159,500 or $423,107.88)
  • Deloitte & Touche (BHD 112,772 or $299,151.86)

The selected bidder is expected to develop EV strategy in three months

The strategy is expected to address EV penetration in a controlled and sustainable way; increase the deployment of solar as an upstream source of electricity; reduce the overall fossil fuel dependency and consumption, reduce pollution; reduce the cost-of-ownership for government, industries and private citizen and advise n charging policies, regulations and infrastructure.

The bidder is also expected to assist MEWA to identify, promote and facilitate sustainable business models, infrastructure and policies to achieve Bahrain’s targets and commitments including the reduction of carbon emissions by 30 percent through decarbonisation and energy efficiency initiatives and reaching Net Zero by 2060.
