ArabFinance: Total renewable energy production in Egypt amounted to around 4,518 megawatts per hour in fiscal year 2020/2021, marking a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 22%, the Egyptian New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) revealed in a press release.

This increase was driven by the improved quality of operations and maintenance across all projects, the release added.

These projects have helped providing over 750,000 tonnes of oil equivalent in FY 2020/2021, in addition to, preventing more than 2,230 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

These comments have been made during a meeting held between the NREAs board of directors and Minister of Electricity Mohamed shaker.

During the meeting, the Executive Chairman of NREA Mohamed El-Khayat has showcased the latest development regarding the 250-megawatt wind turbine project in the Gulf of Suez, which is set to be operational in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2022.

Moreover, El-Khayat presented the latest developments on the 50-megawatt photo-voltaic (PV) project in El Zaafarana area, which is set to begin electricity production by mid-2022.
