Saudi Arabia currently has 44 Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) factories in various regions, with a production capacity of more than 25,000 units annually, state-owned Saudi Press Agency reported, quoting Vice Minister of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing Abdullah Albudair.
MMC encompasses a wide range of offsite manufacturing and onsite techniques that serve as alternatives to traditional house building.
The ministry has financed 22 factories with a production capacity of 27,000 units per year, the minister said.
The new building technology initiative aims to build 80 to 90 factories over the next five years, enabling the Kingdom to become a major player in the modern construction field, he added.
