Shams Development Company held a ceremony to inaugurate the construction of Shams al Sarooj project on Thursday.
The project has been started following a study by the Ministry of Tourism to develop a dedicated RO4.5mn luxurious restaurant complex in Shatti al Qurum which will house top international brands.
The event, held at Grand Hyatt Muscat and attended by officials of the Ministry of Tourism and investors of the project, highlighted how the ministry is keen to develop Oman's tourism in different fields.
The complex is located on a tourist land area of more than 4,000sq m. It will comprise five-star tourist restaurants, as well as shops selling organic food.
Shams Development Company, the main partner in the project was established in Oman ten years ago and works in the field of developing tourism, real estate and industrial projects.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Maryam Mirabbasi, general manager, Shams Development Company, said that the project has been of interest to the company since it contested in the Ministry of Tourism competition.
“The company prepared the competition documents and presented engineering proposals and feasibly studies for the project. We worked hard as a team to win the competition of the project,” she said.
“We are happy to celebrate the inauguration of the construction of the project after one and a half year of preparation. The project will have international cuisine restaurants and we will try to enhance the level of tourism attraction of Oman by having this building,” she added.
Maryam said that the evaluation was tough and the ministry was putting intense care at every single bidder.
“As per the definition of the tender, restaurants are supposed to be five-star and they should be from different countries with different cuisines. We will try to bring something different to the country. Our focus is specific high-end products. We are already in negotiations with the high standard restaurants. In total, five restaurants will be set up,” she said.
The project, which is being undertaken by the ministry in cooperation with the private sector, will add new components to tourism in Oman.
It is a result of efforts of Shams Development Company and investor Issa bin Mahfoud al Riyami.
Riyami said that the inauguration comes in the days when Oman is celebrating its glorious Renaissance Day, a day which celebrates Oman's achievements.
“This project comes as an addition to many tourism projects in the sultanate in general and in Muscat governorate in particular. We thank the Ministry of Tourism and all those who played a part in this project.”
Resolution Engineering Consultancy is the lead design consultant of the project.
“Shams Development won the project and they appointed us as local Omani consultant to develop the concept to rationalise the project as per local regulations,” said Khalid al Mahrouqi, managing director, Resolution Engineering Consultancy.
