Electricity and Water Authority yesterday inaugurated a 66 kV transmission station in Muharraq to meet the growing needs of the citizens there.
Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, the Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, inaugurated the station. Shaikh Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the CEO of the Electricity and Water Authority, was present.
Shaikh Nawaf said that the first transmission station in the Muharraq was a 33-kilovolt station, opened 54 years ago in 1967. The current station, he said, will serve the needs of the Muharraq market. “The new large-capacity station will help the governorate keep pace with the developments in the region.” The CEO said the power demand is rising in the governorate, citing the upcoming housing, industrial and commercial projects. “There are a total of 46 stations in the governorate with capacity ranging from 66 to 220 and 400 kV.”
