Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Emirates Steel, the only integrated steel plant in the UAE, a subsidiary of Senaat, joined today international steel companies and industry leaders, coming from around the world to participate at the World Steel Association (worldsteel) 50th Annual Conference launched in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel DIFC, Dubai until 12th October 2016.

The conference was addressed by high level speakers from the UAE ministries of economy and energy, H.E. Abdulla Bin Ahmed Al Saleh, Deputy Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates, H.E. Ahmed Mohamed Alkaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for Petroleum Gas and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Energy, UAE OPEC Governor.

The day also witnessed a distinguished panel of experts who gave insights on the current trends in energy markets. The panel was chaired by Dr. Edwin Basson, Director General of worldsteel, and involved expert speakers such as Brian Flannery, Chair, Major Economies Business Forum on Energy Security and Climate Change, and Eric Masanet, Head of the Energy Demand Technology Unit at the International Energy Agency, and Mounir Bouaziz, Vice President MENASA and Country Chair Dubai & N. Emirates, Royal Dutch Shell.

The day concluded with the Annual Dinner and Steelie Awards ceremony held at the Armani Hotel, the ceremony recognized members of companies and individuals for their outstanding achievements in all aspects of the industry.

It is worth mentioning that worldsteel’s Annual Conference brings together leaders of global steel companies and associations from around the world representing about 85% of the world steel production, world leading steel manufacturers and industry specialists and research centers. Emirates Steel has been part of this world leading excellence hub since 2012.
