Dubai:Dubai-based Viva City has announced the completion of the first floor of its Sport Society mall – the world's largest sports mall. Construction of this landmark project in the Mirdif area of Dubai is on track and shall be completed by the end of 2019 and will open in the first quarter of 2020.

The project’s first floor is completed and construction of the second floor began, noting that the entire project consists of 3 layers. The ground floor of the mall will be the most vibrant, as it will host and organize various sporting events. The other two floors will include the world's leading sports brands, as well as a chain of restaurants and cafés offering organic food and beverages.

“The project’s construction work is progressing according to schedule and within the allocated budget, thanks to the efficient operations of Khansaheb Civil Engineering, the company commissioned to carry out the construction works. The world-class building is well underway and on programme due to the depth of Khansaheb’s experience, innovation and expertise in building such key retail projects,” said Viva City's Head of Design, Edgar Bove.

"Our reputation has been the deciding factor for winning the construction contract, and we have done great projects on a timely basis," said Steve Flint, Group General Manager, Khansaheb Civil Engineering. We employ an integrated process in managing and coordinating all elements of design, ensuring consistency between different construction processes, as the volume of work in the project is huge as well.

The project involves the construction of nearly 60,000 cubic meters of concrete and is supported by more than 9,000 tons of steel on 6 floors, including the lower floors and the roof, which will be constructed using more than 160,000 square meters of casting molds. The works include the installation of nine steel beams weighing about 70 tons at altitudes up to 30 meters above ground in one elevator using a tracked crane.

Work also includes the installation and coordination of entertainment systems of international standards, including theatrical lighting to create an atmosphere of enthusiasm during the organization of events in addition to huge LED screens around the building, to broadcast local and international entertainment and sports news. The hockey skating rink will also be fully cooled to -5 degrees centigrade during the summer.

The pre-fabricated and assembled MEP units, as well as finished, assembled and manufactured sections of 14 tons per unit, will be used in five sections per pillar to be installed together at the ground level before being built into a single unit with a total capacity of 70 tons.
