Dubai, UAE: Canadian Specialist Hospital, one of the top multi-specialty hospitals located in the Abu Hail region of Dubai, announced the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) accreditation for its endometriosis center at an event recently. The accreditation is the first of its kind for a medical institution in the UAE and confirms that the hospital is well-equipped to conduct accurate diagnosis and offer the necessary treatment with the help of a skilled medical team and state-of-the-art infrastructure.
The Royal College of OBG and British Society of Gynae Endoscopy (BSGE) have been in the process of standardizing the treatment of endometriosis so that medical centres around the world are able to provide the same high level of care to the patients. This accreditation means that the Endometriosis centre at CSH is one of the best clinics in UAE with a dedicated highly qualified multidisciplinary staff equipped with the latest technology to treat Endometriosis patients at par with the best hospitals around the world.
Dr. Marlain Mubarak, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologist, Head of Endometriosis Center, Canadian Specialist Hospital said, “An estimated 176 million women (or 1 in every 10 women worldwide) suffer from endometriosis. Endometriosis is a chronic recurrent disease that has a significant impact on women’s health and chances of pregnancy. There is a huge diagnostic challenge with endometriosis and the delay of accurate diagnosis could take as long as 20 years, according to recent research. With our center we hope to raise awareness and try and help the women suffering from endometriosis in UAE and other GCC countries”.
Endometriosis is a poorly diagnosed disease and even more poorly managed and unfortunately women end up with repeated surgeries due to the lack of expertise in this field. It can’t be diagnosed with lab tests (urine or blood sample) or image testing, and the only way to verify this condition is by undergoing a diagnostic laparoscopy. CSH is the first Endometriosis centre who can provide accurate diagnosis of severe endometriosis on MRI scan using special protocol and technique developed with the help of UK based Radiology team.
The CSH Endometriosis Centre consists of a dynamic multidisciplinary team providing high-quality and evidence-based care that aims to assess and treat women with all grades of endometriosis ranging from mild disease to the most severe form involving the bladder and bowel. The multi-disciplinary endometriosis team led by Dr. Marlain Mubarak, Consultant Gynaecologist, also includes Dr. Firas Younis, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, Dr. Vyomesh Buch, Radiology, Dr. Yassir Jasim, Consultant Urology, Dr. Raad Zaidan, Consultant Anesthesiologist with support of other surgical team members.
Canadian Specialist Hospital has taken the lead to support women in UAE by establishing an endometriosis support group. Another first-of-its-kind, the support group aims to spread awareness and help women who are suffering from endometriosis. Additionally, CSH will also organize a monthly interactive awareness program between patients and doctors. The objective of this program is to provide patients with an opportunity to meet doctors and learn about their conditions and the best-suited treatment for them.
