Atkins has made three senior appointments to its 1,000-strong Middle East Property division.
Grant Gowen and Mark Earley have both been attracted from Arcadis; Grant has taken a new post as director, head of engineering, while Mark joins as regional design director, structural engineering.
In addition, Salim Hussain has been appointed as a principal architect. Salim, who was last year named Architect of the Year by Middle East Architect magazine, was previously head of design at Brewer Smith Brewer Gulf.
Tom Hasker, managing director, Property for Atkins in the Middle East, said: "We're thrilled to welcome Grant, Mark and Salim, and it's a strong signal that we only ever add to our established team when we can entice the best talent in the market. Each of them is hugely capable in their respective fields, and they have vast experience within the region to prove it.
"What's more, they understand the Atkins way and they're passionate about helping us to build even stronger partnerships with our clients, and to keep pushing the boundaries to deliver some of the most exciting projects in the region."
Grant Gowen has more than 35 years' experience across Australia, China and the Middle East. His new role as head of engineering will involve driving consistency and co-ordination through the company's structures, MEP, geotechnical and ITC teams within the region and through global design centres in India, the UK, US and Hong Kong.
He said: "Atkins has an outstanding reputation in the region and I've been really impressed by their drive to keep improving and staying ahead of the competition. They're putting huge investment into their people, technology and systems and I'm looking forward to playing a part in their ongoing success."
Mark Earley has 19 years' experience on projects in New Zealand, the UK, Hong Kong and the Middle East. "Joining Atkins is a fantastic opportunity to work among the region's best technical experts on some of the most challenging and important projects," he said.
Salim Hussain has earned an excellent reputation for his architectural designs across a range of sectors including masterplanning, residential, arts, commercial, hospitality and education. He is a visiting critic at the American University of Sharjah and has lectured at Architecture Schools in the UK.
He added: "I'm impressed and really motivated by Atkins' design philosophy and their open, honest agenda to make fantastic places which leave a positive legacy for the region. Dubai Opera is a prime example of a project which is set to have a huge impact on the region and its cultural offering. The opportunity to deliver work of this scale and ambition was a big factor in bringing me back."
