Muscat - The Wave, Muscat, Oman's lifestyle and leisure destination announced the completion of 40 million man-hours without a lost time injury (LTI). The impressive record achieved was celebrated at a ceremony held at Almouj Golf's Al Majlis which gathered The Wave, Muscat employees, consultants, contractors and site workers.

"This safety milestone is a direct result of The Wave, Muscat's on-going commitment to working safely at every level - a commitment that has been effectively translated into action through the creation, and rigorous maintenance, of policies and systems that ensure the safest working practices," said The Wave, Muscat CEO, Hawazen Esber. Adding, "Indeed, I am proud to say that safety is an integral part of our culture at The Wave, Muscat."

The CEO thanked the contractors who have contributed both to the 40 million LTI free man-hours and to making The Wave, Muscat the landmark community it is today. He also acknowledged the efforts of the site-workers who, through their attention to the highest safety standards, made the achievement possible: "We should all take pride in our safety performance - it is a result of outstanding teamwork by The Wave, Muscat, its partners Al Turki Enterprises and Carillion Alawi, as well as our site-workers. I thank every one of them for the part they have played in this milestone."

Andy Jones, Managing Director of Carillion Alawi, puts this success down to the robust Health and Safety policies that all employees must adhere to. "We develop and work to rigid Health and Safety policies and guidelines, to instil a culture of safe working and behaviour on all our sites".

"Our focus is on ensuring that all workers on site are trained and inducted on the Health and Safety requirements and risks before starting work. All work is carefully supervised and monitored through our daily and weekly safety briefings - the Tool Box Talks - for all staff and sub-contractors. In these meetings, we review incidents and accidents as well as near misses, so that all staff are aware of issues and how to address them. Additionally our '4C' card system ensures that each stage of work is safety checked through official management processes to ensure that risks are clearly identified, controlled, communicated and checked," he added.

David Skinner, Operations Director, of Al Turki Enterprises said that the achievement was due to the stringent HSE policy, audits and regular safety briefings. "We have an HSE management team that works on our sites with the construction team to observe and identify any issues. These issues are always followed up with corrective measures and are monitored to ensure that the correct solutions have been applied. We also run in-house training programmes to arm our employees with the latest HSE skills and knowledge needed on site. All these mechanisms together assist our people to work safely, in line with our HSE policies, for the benefit and satisfaction of our clients."

Mr. Esber also paid tribute to the shared vision and commitment of the government of Oman and Majid Al Futtaim who have provided the solid foundation that underpins the vibrant community's continued growth.
