The Hotel Joins Millions around the World in turning off Lights for an Hour on March 25th, 2017
Doha, Qatar – The St. Regis Doha, the finest address in Qatar, joins millions around the world in turning off their lights for Earth Hour 2017 to illuminate a powerful message about environmental awareness and action.
Earth Hour 2017 took place on March 25 at 8:30 p.m. local time. Created by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Earth Hour is the largest movement for the planet in human history, spanning 7,000 cities, 152 countries, with a digital reach of 200 million.
The St. Regis Doha activated a range of energy-saving measures during Earth Hour including turning off exterior lighting and signage lighting; dimming and turning off non-essential interior lighting and using candlelight in appropriate public areas such as restaurants and outlets.
Mr. Tareq Derbas, Area General Manager of Lebanon, Syria, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq for Marriott international and General Manager of The St. Regis Doha, said: “We are honoured to support such a significant movement with such a simple gesture. Earth Hour reflects a philosophy that we try to practice year-round. With small steps each one of us can make a difference and raise awareness of the necessity of protecting our environment.”
This year will mark St. Regis Doha’s 5th annual participation in Earth Hour. Earth Hour is just one of the many ways the hotel acts in support of its commitment to reduce energy and water consumption across its entire portfolio.
Last year, Earth Hour broke records to cement itself as the largest voluntary action for the environment. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Pacific to Europe and Africa to the Americas switched off. People across the world from all walks of life turned off their lights and came together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.
