Abu Dhabi – The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi, announced that 1,453,270 transactions were completed during first half of 2020. These transactions include variety of services offered to the public and contribute to creating a safe and secured transport system in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The online transactions that were completed during the first half of 2020 reached 1,178,249 transactions. This is after the implementation of remote working as part of ITC’s precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the public.
The Safety of the Public is a Top Priority
In order to ensure the safety of the public and public transport users, ITC conducted regular sterilising included all public transport before and after each working shift and an intensive sterilising at night after the last working shift.
New Initiatives to Serve the Public
In order to support the public during the current health circumstances, ITC launched number of initiatives:
Abu Dhabi Healthcare Link
In appreciation for the great efforts dedicated by healthcare providers to control the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19), a bus on-demand service was launched under the name “Abu Dhabi Healthcare Link” in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Health Service Company (SEHA). The service is offered for free to employees in the medical sector to transport them between their home and place of work.
Abu Dhabi Healthcare Heroes
ITC launched “Abu Dhabi Healthcare Hero” initiative in cooperation with ekar and SEHA. As per the initiative, healthcare providers in Abu Dhabi Emirate will be offered with a free vehicle rental for a month using ekar application. The initiative was launched in appreciation for the great efforts dedicated by healthcare providers in overcoming the risk of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Mawaqif Exemption
According to a decree issued by the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Mawaqif parking fees were suspended for three months from April to June in support to the public during these challenging times. Mawaqif inspectors continued monitoring parking spaces to ensure the public’s compliance with legal parking regulations at all times.
Toll Gate System Exemption
ITC has implemented Abu Dhabi Executive Council’s decision with regards to exempting all individual and company/commercial vehicles from Abu Dhabi toll gate fees until the end of 2020.The decision was part of several initiatives launched by the Executive Council in support to Abu Dhabi’s Accelerator Programme, “Ghadan 21”.
Taxi Home Delivery Service
In part of enhancing the cooperation between government entities to support the society, ITC launched Taxi Delivery Service for Sales Outlets Initiative in cooperation with Department of Economic Development and sales outlets. As per the initiative, ITC offered taxis to sales outlets in order to be used as home delivery service to maintain the public’s safety and avoid the risk of coronavirus (COVID-19). Since the start of the service in April, 3,695 deliveries were conducted by taxis in the Emirate.
Online Payment in Taxis
Online payment for taxi fares were implemented in all taxis in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in order to enhance the quality of services and ensure the safety of the public. Since launching the service, the total number of online payment transactions reached 11,363 transactions.
Transporting Medical Staff to the houses of elderlies and People of Determinations
ITC and SEHA organised this initiative to transport medical staff by taxis to the houses of elderlies and People of Determination in order to ensure their safety and satisfaction.
Together We Are Good
ITC in cooperation with the Authority of Social Contribution distributed around 100,000 food baskets in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi for three months using Tawasul Transport.
Transporting COVID-19 Recoveries to their Houses
ITC in coordination with the Department of Health and number of hospitals dedicated a specific number of taxi vehicles that limitedly transport coronavirus (COVID-19) recoveries of people in need from some hospitals in Abu Dhabi to their homes. The initiative conducted since its start 425 trips. Noting that this initiative is still ongoing.
Precautionary Measures to Ensure the Safety of Taxi Users
As part of many precautionary measures ITC undertook during COVID-19 pandemic, it installed plastic isolators in its taxi fleet that separate drivers from passengers. Whereas no more than two passengers are allowed the back seat of the taxi and all drivers were requested to follow precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the public.
Taxis were used by 28,787,798 passengers and 15,993,221 trips were conducted by 6,390 vehicles from eight operating companies. That is in addition to 1061 limousine taxis.
Additionally, ITC stated that in part of its endeavour to limit greenhouse emissions, hybrid taxi vehicles in the Emirate has reached 5,278, which is 82.6% out of the total number of taxis.
New buses to improve the services
Public buses fleet increased during the first half of 2020 to 772 buses after receiving 112 new buses. ITC stated that 21.3 million public bus passenger trips were conducted during the same period.
Sterilising 7596 school buses serving 687 schools and nurseries
Under the supervision of the Student’s Safety System team at ITC, all the precautionary measures were undertaken to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). ITC issued number of guidelines to operators in coordination with academic institutes to ensure the safety of the students. Additionally, the Student’s Safety team have conducted regular inspection campaigns targeting all school transport operators to monitor the sterilising process and ensure that they are implemented according to the ITC’s instructions.
Traffic Management Centre
The Traffic System Management (TMC) announced that 11,959 Road Service Patrols reports were received. That is along with 3,772 traffic permits that were issued during the same period.
TMC has also contributed in the National Disinfection Programme in support to Abu Dhabi Police during the curfew.
Public parking sector in Abu Dhabi Emirate
In aim of eliminating random parking, ITC implemented 7,801 surface parking spaces in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Moreover, Mawaqif sector reassessed the distribution of the parking spaces as part of the first phase of the project in order to distribute the parking spaces according to the public’s needs in Abu Dhabi Island.
Freight transport
In support to the commercial activity in the Emirate, ITC implemented trucks safety procedures in the weigh-in-motion stations in Mussafah – Truck Road (E30) and Al Ain City – Khatm Al Shakla (E40). Since March, more than 120,000 trucks were monitoring and technically checked.
Infrastructure development and improving ferry services
The number of passengers who travelled using ferry services was 43,672 passengers; 21,012 passengers travelled between Jebel Al Dhanna and Dalma Island and 22,660 passengers travelled between Saadiyat and Al Aliah islands. This is in addition to the 20,051 vehicles that were transported.
