Dubai: On Thursday 7th of March, The Citizens Foundation (TCF) will be hosting a Gala Dinner for a Cause, “Chandni Raatain” (Starry Nights) at the Constellation Ballroom at The Address Dubai Marina. The dinner hopes to invite the leading socialites and philanthropists of Dubai to get together for a dinner with the mesmerizing musical performance.
Shahab Haider, Director – The Citizens Foundation, said “Events like these are an incredible platform for creating awareness and to interact with our supporters. The education crisis in Pakistan remains huge with 22.84 million children out of school. That’s why the need to support education in Pakistan remains greater than ever. TCF has been successfully operating in Dubai since 2004 and is registered with the International Humanitarian City in Dubai. We always appreciate the generosity of this city’s residents who come out in great numbers to support our initiatives and project. Each one of you can make a positive contribution to a better Pakistan.”
UNESCO´s latest published figures suggest Pakistan has the second highest number of out of school children globally after Nigeria. It doesn’t get any better in adulthood, as Pakistan also has the highest number of illiterate adults in the world. To top it all off, we have gender inequality issues in education. Out of the 5.06 million children not going to primary school, 60% are girls
The Citizens Foundation (TCF) was founded in 1995 and is currently operating 1,482 school units across 700 sites in Pakistan. The event is being organized to raise awareness about the TCF education model in Pakistan. The Economist has called The Citizens Foundation (TCF) "perhaps the largest network of independently run schools in the world.” Since April 2018, TCF has an enrolment of more than 220,000 deserving students, nearly half of whom are girls. The Foundation is the largest employer of women in the private sector in Pakistan with an all-female faculty of 12,000 teachers and principals.
The Gala Dinner is open to the public, the ticket is priced at AED 350 inclusive of VAT, and the evening offers socializing, dinner with entertainment, and a chance to learn more about TCF’s mission to educate Pakistan. The net proceeds from the ticket sales will support the TCF Schools in Pakistan.
About The Citizens Foundation:
The Citizens Foundation (TCF) is a strong advocate of the belief that a truly informed and educated society forms the foundation of a progressive state and instills in its citizens the ability to adapt and evolve with changing times. It is a non-profit organization set up in 1995 by a group of citizens who wanted to bring about positive social change through education. 23 years later, TCF is now one of Pakistan’s leading organizations in the field of education for the less privileged. The TCF model focuses on providing quality education through purpose-built schools located in the heart of Pakistan’s urban slums and rural communities. The organization ensures that girls represent nearly 50% of overall student enrolment. TCF entered into public-private partnership and adopted 274 non-functioning government schools in 2016. TCF is a company Limited by Guarantee and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). It is registered with the International Humanitarian City (IHC) in Dubai. In addition, TCF received the Skoll Foundation Award for Social Entrepreneurs in 2013, the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2014 and the Schwab Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2015. Most recently it won the UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy in 2017 for its adult literacy program ‘Aagahi’.
