Dubai, UAE: The British University in Dubai has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the British Council to become an approved IELTS Registration and Test Centre.
The MoU was signed yesterday (7th October, 2019) during an official ceremony in Dubai. The event was attended by Gavin Anderson, Country Director, the British Council, UAE; Deep Adhikari, Director – Exams, Gulf South Cluster; Professor Abdullah Alshamsi, Vice Chancellor of the British University in Dubai; and Hugh Martin, Registrar and Chief Administrative Officer, the British University in Dubai.
Commenting on the strategic partnership, Mr Anderson said: “English proficiency is recognised as a gateway skill for future careers. We are honoured to collaborate with British University in Dubai to make access to IELTS, the world’s leading English exam, easier for their student body as well as the wider community.”
“The British Council is dedicated to supporting the development of English language across the country. We look forward to working with British University in Dubai to prepare tomorrow’s future leaders with the English skills they need to fulfil their academic ambitions and compete in a global workforce,” said Deep Adhikari.
Professor Abdullah Alshamsi remarked: “Our University’s vision is to be recognised and supported as Dubai’s premier resource and focus for the reflective pursuit, inclusive accessibility, effective transfer and liberal application of scientific, academic and professional knowledge. Since our inception in 2003, we have forged alliances with top-notch British institutions to enhance our research and learning offering for our students. Our collaboration with British Council to deliver IELTS testing is another such alliance; one that reinforces our commitment to the advancement and improvement of the Arab world.”
IELTS is the world’s most popular English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration. More than 10,000 organisations globally trust IELTS, so when you take the test you can be confident that it is recognised by educational institutions, employers, governments and professional bodies around the world.
As one of the pioneers of four skills English language testing 30 years ago, IELTS continues to set the standard for English language testing today. Governments in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom use IELTS to process immigration applications.
