Sharjah - The administration of Souq Al- Jubail in Sharjah organised an meeting with the members of the Sharjah Cooperative Society for Fishermen to identify the important requisites of the society members, their aspirations and ambitions, as well as outlined ways to strengthen cooperation between the two parties that would accelerate the growth and raise it to higher levels.

The meeting, which was held at the Souq building, was attended by Eng. Hamid Al Zarouni, Director of Souq Al-Jubail, and Omran Ali Al Shamsi, Director of Sharjah Cooperative Society for Fishermen and a number of other society’s members. The meeting underlined the challenges faced by the society members, as well as acknowledged the strategic role of both the parties regarding the supply of fish produce.

Engineer Hamed Al Zarouni praised the role played by Sharjah Cooperative Society for Fishermen, and its contribution to enriching the food diversity for the Emirate's population and meeting the daily needs of the Jubail fish market visitors. He said: “The fishermen of the Emirate of Sharjah have always enjoyed the support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who has consistently emphasised the need to safeguard and accelerate the profession of fishing, which is one of the oldest, yet noteworthy occupation of the country. As such, the meeting with members of the Sharjah Cooperative Society for Fishermen is a part of our endeavour to support them. Sharjah Cooperative Society for Fishermen is one of our key partners, and we aim to extend cooperation to them always.”

Al Zarouni added: “Souq Al- Jubail has always been an architectural masterpiece, and a one-stop-shop destination for leisure and tourism activities. Over the years, the Souq has gained a good reputation for its fresh produce, which would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of the fishermen, who strive hard to provide the Souq with the best fish produce..” He stated that maintaining the high quality standards requires continuous work and the development of an integrated system based on clear rules that govern the relationship between the Souq management and the management of the Sharjah Cooperative Society for Fishermen.

Omran Al Shamsi, extended his heartfelt appreciation to Souq Al-Jubail management for holding the meeting. He said: “We, at Sharjah Cooperative Society for Fishermen, recognise the importance of Souq Al- Jubail and the status it occupies among UAE nationals and residents. We are proud of the relationship that we share with Souq Al- Jubail management, which has become one of the most important sales outlets supporting the members of our society.”

In the past few years, Souq Al Jubail has held several healthy lifestyle programs and initiatives targeting children and encouraging the community to adopt healthy lifestyles.
