Sony Broadcast & Professional features its latest High Definition technologies the new 'standard' for future broadcasting

Dubai, UAE - 6th March 2005

Sony Broadcast & Professional ME (Sony B&P) will be "Highly Defined"  at CABSAT this year, with their stand boasting the latest in High Definition technologies spread across 4 key areas; HDV, HDCAM, XDCAM/XPRI, AnyCast and DV Station in a working system with new DVCAM products. Sony B&P's message at CABSAT 2005 is simple; High Definition (HD) adoption for broadcast and production is gathering pace in the Middle East and is now easily accessible and affordable! The common element across the 4 areas will be Sony's latest high quality image LCD displays for both HD & SD viewing.

"Users now have more than one choice, to migrate to HD and experience boundless quality and fresh creative options that High Definition delivers at affordable prices," said David Castle, HD, Marketing Manager, Sony B&P ME. "With the market demand for high quality imaging, greater information and flexibility increasing in the region, the trend is to move to HD format. We believe that HD will become the 'standard' format for everyone in the near future."

Sony's aim is make High Definition as accessible as possible with a wide range of products which include the HDW-730S, the HDW-D2000 and the new HDV range. All Sony High Definition formats can capture images at full 1080 line resolution and are therefore ideally matched to the vast majority of worldwide High Definition transmission standards. This means that High Definition images can be viewed on the growing choice of HD compatible television receivers and displays, readily down-converted for Standard Definition (SD) transmission or re-purposed to suit virtually any global distribution requirement... from DVD to e-cinema.

The recently launched HDV is a new entry-level High Definition format aimed at cost-conscious programme makers seeking ways to migrate to HD at a similar price to the current DVCAM range.

Also, under the spotlight at CABSAT 2005, is Sony's brand new product, the Anycast Station system, which will be available in the MEA markets this month. The Anycast Station Live Content Producer is a development that combines decades of Sony AV expertise together with industry-leading IT technology. Designed as a powerful content creation tool for live event programming, it comprises a high-quality video switcher, an audio mixer, a large LCD display and a streaming encoder and server, all packed into a briefcase size chassis weighing only about 7kg.

"We are very excited about the Anycast Station system as it's a unique communication tool that can be used by anyone, anytime and anywhere; for live events, small regional broadcast studios, business/press conferences, promotions, sports events, seminars and distance learning. It is quite literally plug and play - turn on the power and deliver the program," said Nigel Thompson, AV, Marketing Manager, Sony B&P ME.

When it comes to program delivery, the Anycast Station system is extremely flexible. Straight from the Anycast Station system the user can feed programmes to tape or a large venue display, store input source to hard disk drives for non-linear editing, or even stream the programme on the web.

Thompson added: "One of the key benefits of Sony's advanced AV/IT production and workflow solutions is that they are not restricted to broadcasters and video specialists. On the contrary, our technology can also be utilized by customers from many industries to support their business communication needs."

Sony's award winning Professional Disc (XDCAM) will also be featuring at the show. Sony's XDCAM truly combines the AV and IT worlds to deliver significant improvements in terms of "Workflow" and "Cost of Ownership".
