Cairo: Abu Soma Touristic Development Company (ASDC)— The Red Sea’s prominent real estate developer and owner of Somabay has hosted the Somabay Golf Open Tournament, from the 7th to the 9th of October, 2021 at the Cascades Golf Resort & Spa.
As a leading advocate for sporting events, Somabay is considered home to some of the most exquisite Golf practice facilities and top-notch playing surfaces in the region. The tournament took place on Somabay’s signature 18-hole, par 72 course (designed by world-renowned Gary Player), and entertained about 80 golfers from different nationalities.
“We are gearing up for the Winter season with a variety of high-profile events, starting with The Somabay Golf Open Tournament, all the way to the Cape-to-Cairo series finale; culminating at Somabay in June 2022.” stated Ibrahim El-Missiri, CEO of ASDC. “Offering a wide range of accommodation options across the entire destination, as well as direct flights to Hurghada from all over Europe, Somabay stands out as a unique destination with a cutting-edge golf facility. All golf-travel aficionados should mark their calendars for such grand events, and stay tuned for more exciting sports & cultural happenings in Somabay.”
“Somabay is fully committed to ongoing investments in its golf facilities; featuring a second course and a new par 3 course; both designed by Tim Lobb of Lobb & Partners. Additionally, a new world-class 5,000 sqm short-game arena is currently growing in, designed by James Edwards from EDI. The new facilities are distinctively versatile in a way that will be the envy of numerous golf resorts worldwide.” El-Missiri further explained. “We are hoping to attract new golfing tourists to The Red Sea and believe that our facilities are perfect for professional golfers bringing groups for tuition breaks. The introduction of our new floodlights will particularly allow a unique practice environment for different groups. We are looking forward to showcasing those accomplishments, alongside the entirety of the Somabay destination to a wider and more diversified audience.”
The Somabay Golf Tournament 2021 has been extremely honored by the attendance of Mr. VW Mavimbela – Ambassador of South Africa to Egypt. His Excellency’s prominent presence manifests the growing bilateral relations between Egypt and South Africa; with special regards to the grand Pan-African Highway project known as ‘The Cape to Cairo Road’.
