Dubai - Schon Properties, a major property developer, has adopted Dubai Font as its official font for all communications, within 15 days after Dubai Government unveiled the world’s first typeface created for a city called “Dubai Font” by Microsoft Corporation and was made available for Microsoft Office 365 software package.
This makes Schon Properties the first UAE private sector entity to install and incorporate Dubai Font in its internal and digital communication channels.
“The launch of the Dubai Font to the world is a very important step for us as part of our continuous efforts to be ranked first in the digital world,” Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, said in a statement while launching the Dubai Font on April 30, 2017.
“We are confident that this new font and its unique specifications will prove popular online and in smart technologies across the world. Therefore, we urge all government entities to use the Dubai Font in their official correspondence. This is considered a positive shift that will boost the emirate’s competitiveness in smart technology.”
Following the launch, Microsoft Corporation has made the font available in its Office 365 package and made it available to more than 100 million users globally.
Schon Properties has installed Dubai Font in all the work stations, laptops and other communication devices for internal communication while the company’s website is also being updated with Dubai Font.
Noorul Asif, Chief Operating Officer of Schon Properties, said, Schon Properties wanted to support HH Sheikh Hamdan’s initiative that was launched in conjunction with the Executive Council of Dubai and Microsoft Corporation since are passionate about supporting Dubai, great mode of expression and wonderful new tool to communicate with.
“Following the launch of the Dubai Font, Schon Properties took a quick decision to implement the Dubai Font in all our communication channels as we felt inspired by Dubai Government’s initiative. As a long term player in Dubai economy, we feel it is our moral obligation to incorporate the government’s good initiatives and support them in our own way,” he said.
All email, email signatures and social media posts are being issued using Dubai Font which is the product of a two-year partnership between the Dubai Executive Council, Microsoft Corporation and Monotype, the owner of some of the most popular and influential typefaces ever created, including Times New Roman, Arial and Gill Sans. The project was commissioned in 2015 by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai and chairman of the Executive Council.
Dubai Font is free to download from its own website and it has all the social-media accoutrements that any digital campaign could need, including its own hashtag – but it will also be distributed as a default Arabic and Latin font through Microsoft Office 365.
