Dubai: SAE, the world’s leading educator in creative media industries will host comprehensive creative media camps in Film-making and in Animation during the upcoming summer break for students aged 10 – 16 in the UAE.

Christina Kallas, Head of Enrolment and Outreach at SAE Dubai commented, “Most students can’t wait for the summer vacation to start. While it is time to unwind and relax, it is also a great chance to be productive and try out things you may not otherwise have a chance to. With our Mega Summer Camps, we hope to be able to offer to students the chance to do and enjoy something different, and in the process, maybe discover a new passion or even a career path.”

With this objective in mind, SAE Dubai is hosting the following camps this summer:

  • The Mega Film Camp will run for three weeks as follows: Filmmaking from July 7 – 11th, Audio from July 14 – 18th, and Graphic Design from July 21 – 25th. All three courses are connected, with students first learning how to create a film, then learning how to create the audio for it and finally the design. This camp is a great chance for teenagers to learn about the skills which go into the production of a film, such as screenwriting, directing, producing, digital camera operation, lighting, sound and editing on industry standard software. They gain hands-on knowledge on the basics of audio pre-production and even undertake the role of a sound engineer to fully experience what the job offers. Additionally, this Camp provides an introduction to Photoshop, Illustrator and Typography, all those creative skills that will be beneficial to any learner in the future.
  • The Mega Animation Camp also runs for close to three weeks, with the Animation module running from July 21 – 25th, Audio module from July 28th – August 1st and Graphic Design from August 4 – 8. Students are given a basic understanding of 3D production processes using industry standard software such as 3ds Max and 3ds Max 2. They also learn traditional creative drawing as well as how to use individual drawing styles and observation-based sketching skills. Similar to the Mega Animation Camp, students enrolled in this camp also learn about the basics of audio pre-production, what a sound engineer does as well as the basics of Photoshop, Illustrator and Typography.

For both of the above camps, students have a choice of attending all three practical workshops in the camp or just one of them, depending on their interest. Upon completion, they will have their own short film production in hand, some hard-core creative skills as well as creative media camp certificates.

SAE Dubai will also host Demo Day on July 27th for anyone interested in a career in creative media. Students and their families not only can join the SAE team on this day to explore each department but also undergo a first-hand practical experience across five disciplines – Film, Audio, Animation, Game Development and Design. The event is open to everyone and will run from 3 to 5pm.

All activities will be held at SAE’s Dubai campus, located at Block 2B, G Floor, Dubai Knowledge Park. Each of the practical workshops in the Mega Summer Camps is priced at AED 1,500, and there is a discount of AED 1,000 if one signs up for all three practical workshops of the Camp.

Additionally, SAE Dubai has also started a loyalty program for students and their families − the Scholarship Fund, the objective of which is to build and nurture the creative community. Under this program, SAE Dubai will start a scholarship fund account for all students who enroll in a short course or camp with them, wherein credits equal to the cost of the course will accrue. Should students choose to join the degree program, the accrued credit can be used towards tuition fee. For example, if a student enrols in the Mega Animation camp worth 3,500 AED, and later chooses to join SAE’s degree program, the tuition fee will be reduced by AED 3,500.
