Riffa, Bahrain: Royal University for Women (‘RUW”) has announced that in addition to the numerous measures it has taken to support students during the COVID19 crisis, that it will also be extending its support to ease the financial strain that the Pandemic has caused the community.

The University recently announced that it is waiving both the application fee and registration fees for students transferring from abroad as well as providing a 30% discount on tuition fees for students transferring to RUW this Summer. RUW is now offering a 10% discount on the current semester’s fees to existing eligible students, as well as an easy installment plan.

Commenting on the announcement, Royal University for Women Acting President, Dr. David Stewart, said: “This is the least we can do for our community at this time. The financial strain that COVID19 is causing citizens of Bahrain is very real so we do understand that many families in Bahrain may be having difficulty making educational fee payments.”

In addition to financial measures, the University established a Special Task Force team on March 9th to assess and monitor the situation, and implemented a comprehensive COVID19 Crisis Plan designed to protect the health and safety of its students, faculty and the community, whilst supporting students in their efforts to continue their studies and complete the academic year.

“With the unswerving support and commitment of the RUW Board of Trustees, we are doing absolutely everything we can to support the RUW community and help them through these challenging times. We have moved all classes onto our virtual learning space, Moodle, and set up a dedicated online support channel. We have also made changes to the grading requirements, and immediately ceased internships. Although we have not had any reported cases of COVID-19 in the RUW family, we continue to take every precaution. All residence halls are closed to students, Faculty are teaching from home, campus security has been enhanced, and the campus closed to the public, and all on-campus events and programs have been cancelled. The Starbucks on campus is now only open for deliveries, as are the restaurants at the RUW Corner. We also understand that during this time, students may be dealing with many emotions, particularly the class of 2020, so we have arranged online counselling sessions for any students that would like to talk,” he added.

“In times of adversity, we have to pull together, and I am very proud of the RUW community, and grateful to the University’s Board. The challenges we are facing are serving to bring us even closer together, both as a teaching team, a University, and as a member of the Bahrain community.  We have successfully, and very quickly, adapted our teaching methods, and through this steep technological learning curve, both faculty, staff and students are more prepared than ever to enter the Digital Economy. As a member of Team Bahrain, we are also doing our part to help local Bahraini businesses that are impacted by the Crisis. I am pleased to report that the University has launched a “Think Local” initiative that encourages our students to purchase from local businesses. The initiative has been well received by the local business community with a number of Bahraini businesses now onboard.” Dr. Stewart concluded.
