Syzran, Russia: - A high-ranking delegation led by Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Egypt has paid a visit to one of Russia’s largest machine-building enterprises, JSC TYAZHMASH, which is based in the city of Syzran in the Samara region.

The delegation also included Samara Regional Governor Dmitry Azarov, Board Chairman of Egypt’s Nuclear Power Plant Authority (NPPA) Dr. Amged El-Wakeel, Chairman of the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) Dr. Samy Atallah, First Deputy Director General for Nuclear Energy of Rosatom and JSC ASE President Alexander Lokshin, NPPA Vice Chairman Eng. Mohamed Ramadan, Deputy Chairman of the Federal Environmental, Industrial & Nuclear Supervision Service of Russia (Rostechnadzor) Alexey Ferapontov, JSC TYAZHMASH Director General Andrey Trifonov, and project teams from Rosatom’s Engineering Division and the NPPA.

During the visit, the delegates inspected the enterprise’s main workshops, where they learned about the production of various equipment for nuclear power plants in China, India, Turkey and checked out the processing of transport gateway elements for Bangladeshi nuclear power plant. The meeting ended with the signing of an act on the production start of the core catcher devices for power units No. 1 and No. 2 of Egypt’s El-Dabaa NPP.

“Today’s truly important event is the result of diligent collaboration by project teams from both Russia and Egypt. The construction of Egypt’s nuclear power plant is taking place with the full support of [the country’s] political leadership. It is gratifying to see that the [joint] team is showing good results and successfully fulfilling all the tasks it faces in realising this project,” said Dr. Mohamed Shaker.

“First of all, I would like to emphasise the importance of this project for Rosatom and Russia as a whole. Projects as large as the construction of a nuclear power plant can be implemented only with the complete mutual understanding between customer and contractor, and we are very grateful to the Egyptian side that such an atmosphere already exists on this project,” said Alexander Lokshin.

“We were ready to see modern technologies at production sites in Russia, and this gives us confidence that our cooperation will allow us to fulfill all contractual obligations: all equipment will be manufactured and delivered on time,” said Dr. Amged El-Wakeel.

“It is very important for the Samara region to expand its cooperation with foreign states, including by increasing the volume of products the region manufactures for world markets,” said Dmitry Azarov. “TYAZHMASH, one of Samara’s leading mechanical engineering enterprises, annually increases its portfolio of orders, number of products, volume of work, and export volumes. This is of great importance for the regional economy, for the introduction of new, modern industries and technologies, and for improving the well-being of the residents of both Syzran and the Samara region.“

“TYAZHMASH and Rosatom have been cooperating for many years and [this cooperation] is only getting stronger. Our company is now actively involved in the construction of numerous nuclear power plants both in [Russia] and abroad. And thanks to this, we have increased the volume of ‘nuclear’ contracts in our order book to 30% [of the total]. TYAZHMASH understands the importance of the El-Dabaa NPP construction project and will meet its tasks to produce high quality equipment in a timely manner. I hope that new contracts await us [in our future], both [contracts] for the Egyptian station and [contracts] in the framework of our overall cooperation with Rosatom,” said Andrey Trifonov.

JSC TYAZHMASH is celebrating its 80th birthday in 2021, in honour of which Andrey Trifonov presented commemorative medals to Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Alexander Lokshin, Dmitry Azarov, Dr. Amged El-Wakeel, and Dr. Samy Atallah.

Earlier this week, a high-ranking Egyptian delegation led by Dr. Amged El-Wakeel, Board Chairman of Egypt’s Nuclear Power Plant Authority (NPPA), visited Russia’s southernmost nuclear power plant, Rostov Nuclear Power Plant, which is based in Volgodonsk. The delegation was shown the central control panel, which manages the distribution of Rostov NPP-generated electricity, as well as the main control room and the turbine hall of power unit No. 4. NPP employees also took time to answer the Egyptian team’s questions.

Rostov Nuclear Power Plant has 4 power units with a total capacity of 4,071 MW. This is the most powerful energy facility in the south of Russia, responsible for 75% of the electricity used in the Rostov region and about 30% of the electricity used in the South and North Caucasian Federal District.

The delegation also visited the Volgodonsk branch of AEM-Technologies JSC (part of Rosatom’s machine-building division Atomenergomash) and appraised the technological capabilities of the Volgodonsk production site where the main equipment for Egypt’s El-Dabaa NPP is manufactured. The guests examined the production site of reactors and steam generators and saw equipment at various stages of production for India and China nuclear power plants. The company’s personnel demonstrated welding and reactor part processing procedures, as well as hydraulic tests and various control operations.
