Manama  89% of organizations in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) now view digital transformation as being central to their corporate strategies. That's according to a recent survey conducted by International Data Corporation (IDC), which explored these findings in detail today as it hosted the Bahrain edition of its IT Forum 2018 roadshow at Manama's Gulf Hotel.

In light of this research, the event's theme – Digital Transformation: Strategies for Automation, Innovation, and Intelligence – could hardly have been more appropriate, with more than 100 senior IT executives gathering to receive expert guidance on unlocking new revenue streams, driving new levels of innovation, and revolutionizing the customer experience through the implementation of disruptive digital technologies.

"In today's world, digital transformation (DX) has attained a macroeconomic scale and impact, becoming the core of what industry leaders do and how they operate," said Jebin George, IDC's program manager for industry solutions in the MEA region, as he opened the day's proceedings. "As digital-native enterprises continue disrupt traditional customer-engagement models with their pioneering automation and intelligence capabilities, established enterprises must become 'digital native' in the way they think and act, transforming their organizations through the establishment of core digital competencies in the areas of leadership, relationships, information, operation, and talent."

Khalid Rashid Moh'd Jalal, head of group ICT at GARMCO, then took to the stage to present an in-depth case study that explored the intricacies of his organization's successful digital transformation journey to date. Artificial Intelligence Society Bahrain, Dr. Jassim Haji, was also on hand to present an overview of the current artificial intelligence landscape in Bahrain and outline the latest developments in this space.

The event played host to a number of interactive panel sessions that saw respected ICT experts discuss the innovation, security, and infrastructure implications of the region's rampant pursuit of digital transformation. The esteemed panelists included industry luminaries such as:

  • Dr. Nabeel Hewahi – Professor of Computer Science, University of Bahrain
  • Fawzan Shukrall – Head of IT, Bahrain Institute for Political Development (BIPD)
  • Dr. Jaflah Hassan Al-Ammary – Assistant Professor, Department of Information Systems, University of Bahrain
