Qatar Rail Concludes Successful Participation at QITCOM 2017

As the Pearl Sponsor of QITCOM 2017, Qatar Rail has concluded its highly successful participation in the region’s leading digital exhibition and conference which is held under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar from 6 - 8 March 2017 at the Qatar National Convention Centre.

Qatar Rail signed three MoUs with Ooredoo, Qatar National Broadband Network (QNBN), and Vodafone. The signing ceremonies were held at QITCOM’s Smart Zone in the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) on the 7th March 2017. These important partnerships with leading telecommunications providers in Qatar where made in order to help ensure that the future users of the Doha Metro can stay connected while using the railway network.

As well as signing the MoUs, Qatar Rail was proud to announce its membership of the Qatar Innovation Community (QIC) during this year’s edition of QITCOM. QIC is an open platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration on innovation and Qatar Rail was keen to join hands with its other partners to support efforts to ensure sustainable growth in Qatar.

Qatar Rail’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Abdulla Abdulaziz T. Al Subaie commented on the occasion, “Qatar Rail is responsible for delivering a truly landmark project for the nation which will not only provide the community with a new alternative mode of transport, but will also support the local economy. This agreement with QIC plays an important part in identifying and empowering home-grown talent and we look forward to working with our partners to help Qatar achieve The National Vision 2030.”

Furthermore, Qatar Rail's Operations and Maintenance Director, Abdulla Saif Al Sulaiti took part in a panel discussion titled "Innovative Ideas Transforming Transportation and Logistics" in which he discussed the importance of the state-of-the-art technology applied in Qatar Rail’s projects. Engaging the other members of the panel he went on to highlight the effective role technology can play in improving the operations of railways and providing high-quality smart solutions to future users.

With the fourth edition of QITCOM held under the theme “Connecting the World with Technology”, Qatar Rail took the opportunity to engage with visitors and give them an insight in to the sustainable public transport solution it is responsible for delivering to the nation.

The Qatar Rail booth at QITCOM showcased the smart technologies applied to designing and operating the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram projects. The booth also featured two dedicated areas, one giving an overview of the Doha Metro project and the other Lusail Tram. Visitors were able to see how the future trains will look and understand how the cutting-edge technology deployed in each will work. They were also be able to watch virtual reality videos that took them on an exciting tour of a future Doha Metro station.

QITCOM concluded on Wednesday 8 March 2017 with a Gala Dinner during which an awards ceremony was held to recognize all the exhibitors, as well as give out the Qatar Digital Government Excellence Awards. Qatar Rail ranked first in the Qatar Digital Government Excellence Award for Best Government Website and Ms. Aisha Al Rumaihi, Information Technology Director, accepted the award in recognition of all the efforts exerted by the company toward achieving the Qatar Digital Government Vision 2020.
