HRH Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) visited the city of Ashgabat, capital of Turkmenistan on Sunday, March 16th, 2008 in response to an official invitation from the country's President, H.E. Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov.

Upon his arrival, Prince Alwaleed and accompanying delegation headed to the Prime Minister's Office to meet the Prime Minister of Turkmenistan H.E. Mr. Rashid Moradov. The Prime Minister cordially greeted and welcomed Prince Alwaleed, and thanked him for accepting the invitation of President Berdimuhammedov. A meeting was held following the reception during which H.E. Mr. Moradov and Prince Alwaleed discussed matters related to the economy of their respective countries. Also, a number of social and investment issues that pertain to both countries and investment opportunities in Turkmenistan were part of the subjects discussed. The meeting was attended by H.E. Abdulaziz Ibrahim Al Ghadir, Saudi Ambassador to Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan is a Turkic country in Central Asia and the world's 52nd-largest country. Half of the country's irrigated land is planted with cotton, making the country the world's tenth-largest producer of it. It possesses reserves of natural gas and substantial oil resources.

Prince Alwaleed's next visit on the same day was the city of Dushanbe, capital of the Republic of Tajikistan. The visit was in response to an official invitation from the country's President H.E. Emomali Rahmon. The trip began with a meeting between the President of Tajikistan and Prince Alwaleed at the Presidential Palace. The President cordially greeted and welcomed Prince Alwaleed, and thanked him for accepting his invitation. A meeting was held following the reception during which President Rahmon and Prince Alwaleed discussed matters related to the economy of their respective countries. Also, a number of social and investment issues that pertain to both countries and investment opportunities in Tajikistan were part of the subjects discussed. The meeting was also attended by H.E. Hisham Abdulwahab Zar'a, Saudi Ambassador to Tajikistan.

Tajikistan, is a mountainous landlocked country in Central Asia. Afghanistan borders to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north, and People's Republic of China to the east. The primary sources of income in Tajikistan are aluminum production and cotton growing.
