piccing.com (www.piccing.com), the California-based photo-sharing community that allows users to upload, mark and share their favorite pictures and immediately buy the displayed items from shopping partners, is exploring plans to open a branch in Dubai in a bid to tap into the rapidly-expanding E-commerce markets of the UAE and the wider Arab world.
Headquartered in Palo Alto and with branches in Cape Town, Zurich and Berlin, piccing.com's members share a large variety of insider information on fashion trends, lifestyle products, restaurants and clubs among others. The platform has seen the number of registered members more than double since January, taking its community to more than 18 million active users, who tag and recommend new trends on piccing every day via its "Picc it. Live it!" matching tool.
The matching function enables members to search pictures for specific products and to buy them from retail partners such as Armani, Mango, New Balance, Puma, Swarovski and many more. piccing.com is also available via app, enabling users to tag products in their own and shared pictures whilst they are out and about, and to receive similar product suggestions in the app too.
piccing.com seeks to expand its user base and number of brands across the Arab world at a time when the value of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) online E-commerce market is expected to soar to $15 billion by 2015, up from $7 billion in 2011 and $9 billion in 2012, as a growing user base is embracing online shopping and regional retailers are launching more sophisticated E-commerce offerings, according to research by PayPal Insights published in September 2013 in conjunction with Ipsos.
"Since our launch three years ago in the U.S., our user numbers in Europe have been on a constant upward trajectory. We're now looking at the market in the United Arab Emirates, which is highly attractive for us," says Dirk Spielmann, founder and CEO of piccing.com. "The E-commerce market in and around Dubai in particular is booming. People are truly cosmopolitan - they love fashion and are always on a lookout for the latest trends."
Going forward, piccing is looking to set up a branch in Dubai to tap into the lucrative Arab Markets. "Our aim with piccing is to discover new brands and products and to get suggestions from other like-minded people," Spielmann adds.
At the moment 60% of piccing.com's members are interested in accessories, 30% in fashion and 10% are looking for gadgets.
