Muscat: In recognition of the world-class quality of OCTAL’s operations at their PET Sheet Plants in Oman, the clear rigid packaging material suppliers have been awarded the highest achievable certification for production excellence. The company was given a coveted internationally-recognized AA rating following a recent rigorous audit of their Salalah facilities against the requirements of British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials Issue 5.
OCTAL CEO Nicholas Barakat expressed his delight at the award, which provides extra protection for end users and confirms the company is continuing to achieve exceptional standards at our manufacturing facilities. He said: “This level of certification rewards OCTAL’s level of commitment to excellence and recognizes the quality, safety and compliance of our products and plant procedures. By awarding OCTAL the highest rating achievable to the packaging industry, the British Retail Consortium has recognized we put customers first and operate to the highest standards. The achievement is a credit to the hard work and dedication of our team.”
Sought around the world by major packaging businesses, the BRC Standard is a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognized standard and is a symbol of best practice that demonstrates that OCTAL is highly proficient in upholding product safety and reliability. The award of the BRC Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials means the company can now include the organization’s prestigious logo on their packaging. OCTAL was granted the premier certification rating for the sector following a stringent two-day audit process for each plant, during which independent inspectors scrutinized six criteria. During their visit, auditors examined OCTAL’s senior management strategies, hazard and risk systems, product quality and safety, site standards, product and process controls, and staff.
OCTAL’s Quality Systems Engineer Walaa Sidahmed Rahma described the audit program as the toughest in the industry. She said: “We are delighted to have gained AA rating and such a high certification level, and this is proof of the consistently high benchmarks we set for ourselves.”
The certification award followed the news earlier this year that OCTAL were investing $50 million (US dollars) on expanding their PET sheet business in the Sultanate. The outlay will go towards the expansion of PET sheet capacity and improve existing machinery, increase operational efficiency and generate significant cost savings. This follows a decade of sustained progress by the company and increased demand for OCTAL’s fully recyclable, sustainably produced packaging solutions, which are used by food, beverage, pharmaceutical and consumer goods businesses.
OCTAL combines environmental responsibility and cost effectiveness with innovative technology, manufacturing prowess, and global reach, to meet the evolving needs of a growing customer base. The company sets international standards in environmental stewardship and has one of the lowest carbon footprints in the PET industry. From a single PET resin and sheet production plant in Salalah in 2006, the company was transformed into a global operator with four plants in the USA, Oman and KSA, and a workforce of more than 600. OCTAL are set to further diversify globally into the emerging Asian and Latin American markets and have plans to expand into Europe and the US with the market leading PET range.
