Jeddah: As part of its social responsibility and commitment to building strategic partnerships with government entities, Nahdi Medical Company signed an agreement with the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones “MODON” to develop the first smart logistics warehouse in the Middle East on an area of 250,000 square meters in Jeddah.

The agreement was signed by MODON Director-General Eng. Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Salem and Nahdi CEO Eng. Yasser Bin Gholam Joharji.

Al Salem said the agreement aims to develop an industrial facility for logistic services on a plot of land owned by Nahdi Medical Company near the Second Industrial City in Jeddah. He said the planned warehouse will be the first smart logistics warehouse in the Middle East and the Gulf region.

He added: “The proposed project falls within the remit of MODON with regard to the licensing of industrial cities and parks developed by the private sector and making sure they comply with applicable requirements and regulations. MODON is tasked with overseeing the development and operation of such projects which must observe the requirements set out in both the Construction and Safety Guidelines and the Environmental Guidelines”.

Al Salem said MODON works to provide added value to its partners, activate partnerships with the public and private sectors, and create a sustainable investment environment for the advancement of the industrial and logistic sectors. This is in line with KSA Vision 2030, which seeks to leverage the Kingdom's unique geographic location at the heart of global trade routes, he said, noting efforts to turn the Kingdom into a global logistical hub linking Asia, Africa and Europe. In 2018, Al Salem added, 13 contracts were signed with logistics solutions providers covering a total area of 140,934 sq m and bringing the total logistics space to 2,737 million sq m.

Since its inception in 2001, MODON has been developing fully served integrated industrial spaces based on the highest international standards. It currently oversees 35 existing and under-development industrial cities in various regions of the Kingdom, as well as private sector-owned industrial parks and cities. The area of developed industrial land has exceeded 194.6 million square meters so far while existing industrial cities are home to 3,474 factories.

Nahdi CEO Eng. Yasser Joharji said the project will guarantee medical security in accordance with the latest international systems and will reflect the company's role as an effective partner in supporting Vision 2030. He explained that the Jeddah-based "Emdad" project is part of Nahdi Medical Company's vision to provide world-class services in coordination with MODON and the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA).

The project will be built on an area of 250,000 Sq m using cutting-edge control and quality systems. Designed by Saudi and foreign companies, the two-phase project observes international logistics standards. It will be the largest logistics warehouse in the Middle East in the pharmaceutical industry.
