Dubai: H.E. Dr. Mohammad Salim Al Olama, Undersecretary, Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), today met Emmanuel Hategeka, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to the UAE, on the sidelines of the 45th Arab Health taking place at Dubai World Trade Centre from January 27 to 30.
Al Olama and Hategeka discussed enhancing mutual cooperation in the health sector as well as the possibility of importing the UAE’s experience to Rwanda.
During the meeting, which was attended by MoHAP’s undersecretaries, both sides spoke about ways of supporting medical education in Rwanda through attracting Rwandan students to study medicine in Emirati universities. They also reviewed the UAE’s successful experience in tackling drug fraud using artificial intelligence and smart devices.
Al Olama and Hategeka also discussed the possibility of training Rwandan medical cadres at the Quality Control and Research Laboratory of the Ministry of Health located at the Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park.
The meeting also touched on the importance of enhancing collaboration between UAE and Rwandan health institutions in the field of management, exchanging medical information, and encouraging investments in health services.
They further talked about the Emirati support extended to Rwanda to help apply modern technologies, detect diseases, especially tuberculosis, and Malaria.
During the meeting, Al Olama briefed the Rwandan ambassador on the ministry’s achievements and its efforts being made to render excellent therapeutic and preventive services and harness modern technologies in bid to achieve the health security.
He also introduced the official to the ministry’s strategy, which aims to improve the quality of health systems, develop health facilities and provide an easy access to all services and facilities according to the best international standards.
For his part, the Rwandan ambassador stated that he was impressed by the remarkable developments achieved by the UAE’s health sector, saying that his country is very much interested in taking its relations with the UAE to new heights.
Johnson & Johnson
In another separate meeting, Al Olama explored avenues of cooptation with Vishnu Kalra, Managing Director of Johnson & Johnson, especially in innovative medical technologies and the development of research centers, laboratories and medical equipment.
They meeting touched on ways of strengthening mutual partnership to develop community mental health services that support mental patients according to the best international standards.
Furthermore, they spoke about the possibility of cooperation in the field of manufacturing innovative medicines using modern technology and techniques.
Both sides agreed to develop their partnership to support smoking cessation and Clinical Research programs and stressed the importance of developing advanced technical health solutions that contribute to strengthening the quality of health services and promoting curative services.
Al Olama affirmed that the UAE’s cooperation relations with Johnson & Johnson and other international medical companies have yield fruitful results, which would help launch innovative initiatives and projects that improve and quality of healthcare services.
