Scientific Director at Central Veterinary Research Laboratory, Dubai to shed light on important aspects of disease at VETme 2011
Veterinary Middle East (VETme) 2011, the Middle East's premier veterinary trade exhibition and conference, that runs from March 29 to 31, 2011 at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre, has revealed that Priv. Doz. Dr. Dr. habil. Ulrich Wernery, Scientific Director, Central Veterinary Research Laboratory (CVRL), Dubai, will shed light on glanders, the infectious disease among animals, during his talk in the event.
Glanders, a re-emerging disease, that primarily occurs in animals and can also spread to human beings, needs strong monitoring so as to be totally eradicated. A recent high level expert mission from OIE, the World Organisation for Animal Health, that visited several countries in the Middle East, highlighted the crucial role that national veterinary services can play in controlling the spread of the disease. Experts had indicated that failure to detect the disease early, along with its under reporting, could lead to its spread.
"The Central Veterinary Research Laboratory, an OIE acknowledged Glanders laboratory, has conducted an intensive research on Glanders in the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain, as a result of which we have been able to increase awareness regarding the clinical signs, pathological lesions, serology and culture of pathogen. VETme 2011 will present an ideal platform for us to highlight various aspects of this disease and focus on the latest measures being adopted to eliminate this disease from this region," said Dr habil. Ulrich Wernery.
Further, expert talks on a diverse range of topics from equine infectious diseases, camel management to wildlife and handling sports injuries are being held at the 3rd Veterinary Middle East Conference as part of VETme 2011. The conference participants will also be given an exclusive tour of the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory in Dubai that was founded by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai on the last day of the conference.
"VETme 2011, in its third year, has emerged as a premier trade exhibition and conference of the region. This year again the event will host talks from several high-profile speakers including Priv. Doz. Dr. habil. Ulrich Wernery, who is addressing a highly topical issue. The excellent response that VETme has generated this year reaffirms the potential that the event presents a high-impact networking platform that also facilitates sharing of latest best practices and knowledge in the veterinary domain," said Goutam Malhotra, Exhibition Manager, VETme 2011.
VETme 2011 expects to gather more than 2,000 buyers from all over the Middle East, providing the perfect platform to launch new products and generate immediate sales and orders for exhibitors. The event will also be attended by leading dealers and distributors in the Middle East, creating excellent opportunities to establish strategic alliances and joint ventures and gain direct access to lucrative and emerging markets in the Middle East.
