Amman, 08 June 2015 - In collaboration with Microsoft Research India, Microsoft Jordan has partnered with the Jordan Universities Network (JUNet) to launch the Jordan Open Courseware Platform - www.elearning.edu.jo - for public universities. The Platform, which will be hosted by JUNet on its Microsoft Azure cloud, aims to increase the efficiency of higher education tools and expand university student access to knowledge.
The Jordan Open Courseware Platform will be launched prior to the commencement of the fall semester. During the first stage, it will be available to several public universities, and will comprise professor courseware content including lectures, examinations, lesson plans and other learning aids, as well as additional student content.
In later stages, the Platform will be developed to serve as a research venue for all universities throughout the Kingdom, consequently facilitating collaboration between students on research themes. In the future, it may be expanded to encompass distant learning services, national exams, research repositories, virtual workplaces and cross research activities, thus ensuring the timely delivery of effective research projects.
The Minister of Information and Communications Technology, H.E. Shweikeh, expressed her pride in launching the Platform, which represents a positive step towards further integrating technology in the learning process, thus advancing the standards of higher education across Jordan.
"At Microsoft Jordan, advancing the education and information technology sectors is at the forefront of our priorities. Through this step, we seek to enhance local higher education standards on par with worldwide educational systems, as well as empower youth to excel within their respective majors. Microsoft Jordan will be organizing various training programs for all involved parties at the universities in order to ensure that the Platform is operated and leveraged in an optimum manner. Our efforts are closely aligned with His Majesty King Abdullah II's vision to activate the national plan aimed at supporting youth and growing the education and information technology sectors," commented Malhas.
In turn, Dr. Faruq Al-Omari said, "This step corresponds with our commitment to developing higher education in Jordan, in addition to simplifying and accelerating the procedure of attaining information needed by university students for teaching and learning processes, as well as for completing their researches. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Microsoft Jordan for its ongoing efforts in supporting the Kingdom's education and information technology sectors in general, and for its strategic partnership with JUNet, which has over the years resulted in many valuable programs and initiatives that have enriched the knowledge of individuals and organizations alike."
