Dubai: Mediclinic Middle East, part of Mediclinic International, a private hospital group with three operating platforms in Southern Africa, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates, and a 29.9% shareholding in Spire Healthcare in the UK, announces the acquisition of a minority stake in Bourn Hall International MENA Limited, the holding company for the Bourn Hall Fertility Centre in the UAE, a pioneering fertility centre which was brought to the Middle East in 2010 by specialist private equity firm TVM Capital Healthcare.
The acquisition lays the foundation for a partnership focused on a long-term MENA-focused expansion in the field of Assisted Reproduction. In a first step, Bourn Hall Fertility Centre will take over operations of Mediclinic Middle East’s existing IVF clinic located at Mediclinic Al Ain Hospital, and operate it under the Bourn Hall umbrella, as Bourn Hall International MENA Ltd. will continue to operate and manage its IVF business independently and under its existing brand.
Today, Bourn Hall Fertility Centre in Dubai is the only fertility center in the Middle East to be accredited by JCI, the oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care in the United States. Bourn Hall’s UK founder, Professor Robert Edwards, invented the IVF concept over forty years ago, in 1978, and was subsequently awarded the Nobel Prize in medicine in 2010.
Hoda Abou-Jamra, CEO of Bourn Hall International and Founding Partner of TVM Capital Healthcare, commented: “We are very pleased to have found such a reputable strategic partner to further grow Bourn Hall International MENA Ltd. within the UAE and the MENA region which present significant opportunities for the growth of IVF clinics. A rise of infertility levels caused by genetics and lifestyle factors, is not matched by a sufficient supply of high-quality, state-of-the-art IVF providers.”
David Hadley, Chief Executive Officer at Mediclinic Middle East, commented: “We are delighted to be working with Bourn Hall International MENA Limited, a brand synonymous with IVF, to expand Mediclinic Middle East’s presence in this growing and important market. Their reputation for trusted expertise and quality outcomes matches our own, as does their ethical approach to healthcare, and they will bring a wealth of additional knowledge and experience to the IVF centre we currently operate at Mediclinic Al Ain Hospital and the services we plan to add across the region in the future.”
