Signs MoU with Dubai Healthcare City to Strengthen Healthcare Ties and Collaboration between TAIWAN and UAE
A delegation comprises of 39 high profile members, including Taiwan's central and local health authorities, trade promotion organization and leading hospitals representatives, headed by Dr. Chiu Wen-ta, Minister of Health and Welfare of Taiwan visited Dubai from Feb. 15 to 18, 2014. The delegation was organized by the Ministry of Health & Welfare, Taiwan, and implemented by Taiwan's trade promotion agency -TAITRA. The purpose of this delegation was to increase communication and cooperation between Taiwan and the UAE, especially in the field of medical services.
Three key objectives were achieived as a part of the agenda of the visit. Firstly, the delegates met with dignitaries and health authorities from the UAE and discuss ways to strengthen ties and enhance healthcare systems between the two countries. Secondly, the group visited Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between TAITRA and Dubai Healthcare City for future cooperation to facilitate knowledge sharing in healthcare. And lastly, the delegation promoted Taiwan's state-of-the-art medical services which has be catching attention of the experts across the globe.
Speaking at the press conference, which was held at Shangri-La Hotel in Dubai, Dr. Chiu Wen-ta, Minister, Ministry of Health & Welfare, Taiwan said," Taiwan has state-of-the-art hospitals and healthcare facilities and now after the launch of the Emirates Airlines direct flight between Dubai and Taiwan, people from Dubai will find it logistically convenient to travel to Taiwan for specialized treatment."
Speaking about the collaboration between TAITRA and Dubai Healthcare City, Marwan Abedin, CEO of DHCC, said: "We are delighted to host the delegation from Taiwan. Our collaboration will pave the way for continued growth to better serve our local, regional and international patients. As Dubai Healthcare City, we support best practice in healthcare and promote the sharing of knowledge in evidence-based technology and medical expertise. We are also proud to demonstrate DHCC's innovative model as a facilitator of integrated healthcare and wellness, and medical education."
Delegation also invited two UAE based patients, who were treated for their illnesses in Taiwan, to share their touching stories and experiences at the press conference,
One of the patients is Mr. Fuad, a well-established business man in Dubai, who suffered from a neck spinal problem for many years and had been seeking helps but to no avail. Until TAITRA's Liaison office in Dubai recommended him to go to Taiwan for treatment where he underwent a spinal surgery at Taiwan's Taichung Veteran General Hospital using minimally invasive technique which left him with tiny scar. He gained a speedy recovery.
"I am very pleased with the procedures and wish to share my amazing experience with my friends and family of how incredibly Taiwan's medical services has helped me to reclaim the normalcy of my life," said Mr. Fuad.
Another patient was a little girl named Iya, who suffered from 'Belliary Atresia', a congenital disease of the liver, barely 3 months after her birth. She underwent the liver transplant at Taiwan's Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.
Iya's parents said that the operations went well and thanks to doctors and the medical team from the hospital that our daughter is now perfectly fine.
"We were amazed by the skill of the doctors who treated Iya and the services offered by Taiwan's hospitals," they added.
The delegation attended the opening ceremony of the 'International Family Medicine Conference and Exhibition' at the Dubai World Trade Center on 16th February along with H.H Sheikh Hamdam Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and other dignitaries from UAE.
The Delegation also met with Dubai Health Authorities and some leading healthcare facilities in Dubai and Abu Dhabi during their visit, sharing information on Taiwan's healthcare system, and brief on Taiwan's first Free Economic Zone plan, in order to maximize the future cooperation opportunity between the two countries.
