Muscat: Utilising technology to enhance the speed of meter reading, Mazoon Electricity Company, the leading electricity provider in Oman, has been using Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system for the benefit of its customers.
AMR system is a central standard smart metering system that enables Mazoon Electricity to obtain monthly readings from customers and collect their consumption in an automated manner. Mazoon Electricity has been implementing the AMR system by connecting its smart meters to Nama Shared Services (NSS) through SIM cards and reading meters remotely.
AMR system operates through smart meters and communicates through a modem. The configurable meter sends the meter reading through SIM cards. AMR’s system communicates with the meters through the SIM cards and gets information such as meter reads, active energy in the meter and issues faced if any. The system lets the AMR meter read the data at any time without having to visit the meter.
The statistics of AMR system available in the various governorates is 33,280 of which AlDakhiliyah has 10,245; South AlBatinah – 11,845; North AlSharqiyah – 5,620 and South AlSharqiyah – 5,570.
AMR is an additional achievement in our constant endeavour to drive Mazoon Electricity to provide better services to customers. Collecting data at each meter is critical for us to better understand the patterns of electrical energy users. Considering the current COVID-19 situation, AMR system is especially useful because meters are read remotely. The data can also be downloaded using a software.
If the meter is connected to AMR system, the customer need not send meter readings as it will be received on a monthly basis through AMR system.
