The newly appointed High Commissioner designate of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mr Muhammad Arshad Jan Pathan, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, this afternoon, at the State House, in Réduit.
In a statement following the meeting, the High Commissioner thanked President Roopun and the Government of Mauritius for having accepted his credentials and conveyed the good wishes of both the President and the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Mauritian authorities.
He observed that Mauritius and Pakistan have longstanding historical relations while sharing almost the same culture and roots. He expressed hope that, during his tenure, bilateral relations between the two countries will be further strengthened.
Furthermore, he underscored that the Pakistani Government has recently developed an Engage Africa Policy, according to which Pakistan intends to have a more engaging and active relationship with all African countries.
The Pakistani High Commissioner also informed that Mauritius is his first ambassadorial station and reassured that he intends to engage more with the Mauritian Government as well as with society in general.
