- Majid Al Futtaim has provided Carrefour floor space to the non-profit business that empowers young Emirati entrepreneurs
- ENABLE will run its own retail space as an independent shop inside Carrefour’s store
- The new shop will enable these young people of determination to reach a broader customer group to whom to sell their home and garden products
Dubai, UAE: Carrefour, one of the largest hypermarket and supermarket chains in the world and operated by Majid al Futtaim in 38 countries across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, has joined forces with ENABLE, a leading Dubai-based social enterprise, to provide floor space in its store in Dubai Festival City to benefit young Emirati entrepreneurs of determination.
The ENABLE ‘shop-in-shop’ at Carrefour, which opens today, is the first stand-alone retail space managed and represented solely by the talented young UAE National entrepreneurs of determination who make up the ENABLE team.
Currently selling their garden and home décor products from display spaces at Dubai Garden Centre and Wahat Al Sahraa nursery, ENABLE will now have a permanent spot in the Carrefour hypermarket market where its entrepreneurs will be involved in interacting with customers and selling the products they have made. The ENABLE team will also organize regular workshops and engage with customers, teaching them the making of various succulent and other plant arrangements.
ENABLE is a non-profit venture, established by the Desert Group in 2015. 100% of the revenues from ENABLE products sold are used to fuel its retail operations, with 15% of revenue from each product sold going directly back to the employee who created it to help encourage and to empower their personal abilities.
Sharing her thoughts on the occasion, Reem Al Ghaith, General Manager, ENABLE said; “Our mission is to empower young people of determination and create opportunities to help get them exposed to the business environment. Through ENABLE we deliver a hands-on retail educational program to these young people, aimed at developing their retail and entrepreneurial skills, and making them further capable of starting their own small business in due course. Carrefour’s generous support will add greatly to our training capability and help expose our talented team to understanding and interacting with customers, giving them an added layer of valuable skills needed in the business world. We are all very excited about the potential for our new retail space and look forward to introducing a new set of customers to the ENABLE brand and products too.”
Miguel Povedano, Chief Operating Officer of Carrefour UAE at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, commented: “Majid Al Futtaim and Carrefour are proud to join hands with the team at ENABLE. Social enterprise businesses play a valuable role in stimulating financial, educational and social opportunities for people of determination, and we are delighted to be able to play our part in supporting these young Emiratis. We believe our customers will also welcome the opportunity to support these young talents through purchases of their beautiful products and attending the creative workshops they will be running in the store. At Majid Al Futtaim our guiding principle is to create great moments for everyone, every day. We see our partnership with ENABLE at Carrefour Dubai Festival City as facilitating memorable moments for both these young Emirati entrepreneurs and for Carrefour customers too.”
The brand new retail space is done up in the signature ENABLE style using wood and greens as the theme. It sports an eco-friendly layout and a customer-friendly feel, accentuated by clear displays, ambient lighting, real plant and wooden boxes, creating an enjoyable feel for customers.
