Beirut: Like every year, the LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital celebrated International Nurses Day. This year however, the occasion takes on a whole new meaning when front line workers are showing exceptional performance and rigorousness in the fight against COVID-19. As such, the LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital decided to mark the special celebration to show appreciation and gratefulness for the hard work the nursing team has been exhibiting during the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The celebration that took place on Monday May 11 debuted with a commemorative photo caption of the entire team in front of the LAU Mobile Clinic which has been visiting different areas in Lebanon and providing free PCR tests for patients unable to afford it.

Appreciative and encouraging speeches followed at the Central Garden where key figures saluted and thanked the nursing staff and the mobile clinic team for their devotion in their mission of fighting the vicious COVID-19 virus. These speeches were delivered by Mrs. Lina Aoun, Chief Nursing Officer at the LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital, Mr. Sami Rizk, CEO at the LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital, Dr. Michel Mawad, Dean of School of Medicine and finally Dr. Jabbra, President of LAU.

This celebration was also in the presence of other key figures that have been extremely devoted in the battle against the novel virus, including: Dr. Georges Ghanem, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Georges Najjar, Vice President, Dr. Jacques Mokhbat Chair of Internal Medicine and Mr. Saad el Zein, assistant to the LAU President for Special Projects.

After having taken an aerial shot in the garden with the nursing teams, the celebration ended with a small reception where cake was offered.

This year, International Nurses Day truly took on a whole new meaning when these front-line workers have been and still are vigorously and relentlessly fighting the evil virus. This dedicated medical team truly embodies and keeps on demonstrating the LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital’ promise of healing with compassion.
