The 4th Annual International Conference on Advances in Biotechnology (BIOTECH 2014), organized by Global Science and Technology Forum (GSTF) in partnership with Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani), Dubai Campus was held at BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus during March 10th-11th, 2014. The conference was inaugurated by Professor R. K. Mittal, Director, BITS Pilani, Dubai and Dr. Anton Ravindran, President, GSTF. Prof. Mittal gave the opening address with best wishes for a successful conference .Dr. Anton Ravindran who welcomed the conference delegates in his address told that the multidisciplinary conference was aimed to provide a challenging forum and vibrant opportunity for researchers and industry practitioners to share their original research results and practical development experiences on specific new challenges and emerging issues.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar Verma, Professor, BITS Pilani, highlighted the use of microbes in bioremediation and related applications as a part of his keynote address. The second keynote speaker, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Professor, IIT Kanpur, enlightened the delegates on polymeric biomaterials for advanced biotechnological applications. Delegates from several countries - USA, China, Turkey, Libya, Malaysia, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, India and UAE, participated in the conference. The delegates presented their findings on a variety of areas like plant biotechnology, cancer biology, Bio-MEMS, bioremediation and medical biotechnology.

Ms. Rajeshwari Somasundaram (BITS Pilani, Dubai campus) and Mr. Brandon C. Beaty (Fort Valley State University, USA) were awarded for the best student paper,while  Dr. Fatemah Bahadori Bezmialem Vakif University, Turkey & Dr. Siti Nurbaya Oslan, University Putra Malaysia were awarded the best research paper .The delegates enjoyed   delightful cultural performance by the students of BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus.
