Dubai: Just days after government officials announced that gyms may safely re-open in the region, one man has taken it a step further by opening a premium fitness club in Studio City, one of Dubai’s most desirable communities. Dubai’s own Marcus Smith – the extreme athlete who completed 30 marathons in 30 days – has revealed plans to open a brand new InnerFight fitness club in just a few weeks’ time. The region’s leading fitness company will be conveniently located in Olivara Residences & Park, the first integrated residential community of its kind.
The 7,000sqft state-of-the-art facility features two gym floors, a yoga studio and the first-ever Smith St Café, serving up delicious Paleo treats. The two-story building also boasts an outdoor swimming pool which gym-goers will have access to. Sparing no detail, the gym been kitted out with top-of-the-range equipment and the fit-out has been completed to the highest standard possible. The class schedule runs from 5:30am to 9pm and includes Functional Fitness, Circuit Training, Weightlifting, Gymnastics, Obstacle Course Racing, Endurance and Yoga. Along side this, Smith’s team of passionate trainers offer personal training, nutrition coaching and mentoring programs.
Commenting on the layout of the club, CEO, Marcus Smith explains: “Having two gym spaces was very important to us because we wanted to run simultaneous classes to impact a wider audience. We have also tweaked our programs to cater to a larger demographic that includes more women and children which is super cool for us.”
The new location replaces the old facility in Al Quoz – a heavily industrial area – which Smith believes is a good move for existing and new members. “Moving into a residential community with our community-based fitness model is super exciting,” he says. “There are a number of people in the area that weren’t able to travel to our old location but are now able to join as we are right on their doorstep, and with a wider selection of services. I am confident that our brand of fitness will give our members the perfect environment to form healthy and lasting habits with their bodies and minds.”
Smith founded InnerFight in 2008 to help people develop their mental strength and physical fitness through functional strength & conditioning classes and endurance coaching. He is also the co-founder of Smith Street Paleo, which he founded with his wife Holly. Until now, Smith St Paleo has delivered meal plans direct to peoples’ homes or offices. With the inclusion of a Smith St Cafe at the new location, Smith is looking forward to serving the community in person. “We’ve expanded our product range in the café to include coffee, smoothies and smoothie bowls which we’ve not been able to do before, so it’s an awesome move for us.”
But it hasn’t been smooth sailing for Smith who was forced to permanently close the Al Quoz location in April due to Covid-19. “For a number of people, the last 3 months have been hugely challenging, and we certainly weren’t spared from it. I had to make the difficult decision to end our lease agreement early and move out of the gym in order to pay my team’s salaries. It’s been a hard road for a lot of people, so I am looking forward to welcoming our community back and giving them the support they need. We have helped a lot of people over the last 15 years and we are not done yet. This is just the beginning.”
