Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi-based placemaker, IMKAN, has awarded BYMARO a two-year, AED 134-million contract to build the Le Carrousel Mall – the first open-air shopping mall in Morocco and a major feature of IMKAN’s Rabat-based flagship project, Le Carrousel.
As Morocco’s first lifestyle mall, construction of the Le Carrousel Mall has begun and is due for completion in the fourth quarter of 2022. The AED 134-million construction contract for the Le Carrousel Mall was awarded to BYMARO; the subsidiary of Bouygues Batiment International, a pioneer in building and civil engineering projects in Morocco.
Founded in 1991, BYMARO has forged a strong identity; that of a company firmly rooted in Morocco and contributing to the development of the country. Being future-driven and simultaneously respectful of the local culture are values shared by both IMAKN and BYMARO. BYMARO builds living spaces that fit harmoniously into their natural environments and provides comprehensive, innovative and sustainable solutions through its involvement across the construction value chain.
Designed by architect Ernesto Klingenberg of Spanish design firm, L35, the Le Carrousel Mall features a contemporary design adapted in keeping with local culture, with enhanced green spaces and well-lit areas amplified by stunning fountains and water features.
Spanning 33,000 square meters, the Le Carrousel Mall will be home to local and international franchises, F&B outlets, entertainment and leisure activities for residents and visitors to enjoy. Open to all, the new mall will also feature new gastronomic experiences, arts and culture events with seasonal programmes and surprises running throughout the year.
Ahmad Aref, Country Manager at IMKAN Maroc commented: “When choosing a construction partner for our Le Carrousel Mall, we wanted to work with a company that shared our beliefs and values to build spaces that enrich people’s lives whilst delivering the highest standards of work and most importantly, on time. We work with world-class partners across all of our local and international sites and are proud to collaborate with BYMARO in Morocco to build the Le Carrousel Mall.
This is the second contract to be awarded for the flagship Le Carrousel community in Rabat. The contract to build the first phase of Le Carrousel was given to SOGEA MAROC, the subsidiary of the French Group Vinci, who has been entrusted to build the residential areas, seafront promenade including over 40 retail outlets across the coastal development. Construction of Le Carrousel’s first phase began early this year and is due for completion in the third quarter of 2022.
As part of the health and safety measures in place to combat the spread of Covid-19 in Morocco, the Le Carrousel Mall construction site has been equipped with all of the necessary safety and hygienic protocols aligned with local government regulations.
Situated off the Atlantic coast covering 10 hectares, the sea-side destination provides a unique 360-degree experience for both its residents and visitors with only 50% density and more than 30% of the development’s land reserved for green spaces. In addition to the mall, Le Carrousel will feature refined residences within an exclusive private community including a seafront promenade and boutique hotel. Only 15-minutes’ drive from downtown Rabat and the motorway, Le Carrousel is set to become one of the leading destinations in the country and has become an integral part of the development of the Rabat Corniche.

• Total investment 212 million Dirham AED of which 134-million Dirham AED allocated to construction
• 29,000 sqm leasable area
• 7,000 sqm green spaces
