- IELTS test takers in Dubai can now take IELTS, the world’s most popular high-stakes language test, on computer
- Computer-delivered IELTS offers faster results and more test availability
Dubai: Around 25 leaders in the education and English language learning sector came together yesterday to officially open IDP Education’s new computer-delivered IELTS test centre in Dubai.
The contemporary and welcoming space is the second centre in the United Arab Emirates to offer customers the choice of taking their IELTS test on a computer, and follows on from the Abu Dhabi launch in September.
The popular computer-delivered IELTS test option offers an improved test day experience, faster results and more test availability for Academic and General Training test takers while maintaining all of the test’s current security, trust and integrity.
The test content and structure remain the same whether taking IELTS on computer or paper and, importantly, the Speaking test remains face-to-face with a certified IELTS Examiner. Whether test takers take paper-based or computer-delivered IELTS, they can be confident that they are taking the same trusted English language test.
Darrin Vardon, Director, IELTS Operations Middle East & Eastern Europe, IDP Education, said more people than ever are looking to improve their English to advance their global career opportunities.
“IDP, a proud co-owner of IELTS, is introducing computer-delivered IELTS at its test centres around the region and is now pleased to offer this option in Dubai & Abu Dhabi empowering our ambitious test takers to achieve their best outcome on test day, and in turn, their global goals. More CD testing locations in the UAE will be added in the coming months.” Mr. Vardon added
Rashi Bhattacharya, Country Director, UAE, Oman and Qatar – IDP Education, said the new test experience in Dubai puts IELTS test takers first by offering them the ability to take IELTS - the world’s most trusted high-stakes English test - on a computer and get their results faster (5 – 7 days). They have the option to sit the IELTS test 3 times a day and up to 7 days a week. Test takers can now type instead of writing by hand!
“Security of the test is key. The computer-delivered solution is secure and capable of delivering the world-leading quality assurance measures that IELTS is renowned for,” Ms Bhattacharya added.
IDP will announce further test centre locations over the coming months.

About IELTS on computer
IELTS on computer was launched in Australia in December 2017 and is being introduced across the IELTS testing network in 2018.
The test is the same as paper-based IELTS for content, scoring, level of difficulty, question format and security arrangements.
IELTS on computer includes Listening, Reading and Writing. The Speaking test will continue to be face-to-face, as it is a more reliable indicator of communication and it is what our test takers tell us feels more natural for them.
This new option will not replace paper-based IELTS but rather offer a choice in delivery and more availability.
Results from IELTS on computer are available between 5-7 days after taking all four test sections.
The IELTS partners are committed to continuous investment in test development in order to enhance the IELTS experience.
