DOHA, Qatar - Tuesday March 25th, 2014: DIMDEX 2014, the 4th International Maritime Defence Exhibition, held under the patronage of His Highness, The Emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, opened today at Qatar National Convention Center with the attendance of H.E Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, who in association with H.E Major General Hamad Bin Ali Al-Attiya Minister of State for Defence Affairs, officially opened the exhibition during a VIP Opening Ceremony.

Major General Mohammed Nasser Al Mohannadi, Commander, Qatar Emiri Naval Forces welcomed guests and extended his deep gratitude and thanks to H.H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir and Commander in Chief of the Qatar Armed Forces for his patronage and his continuous support. Due to his leadership, DIMDEX is now a pioneer in naval defence technology, providing a platform for leaders to interact and exchange views and discuss appropriate solutions to meet the challenges and threats facing the countries of the region.

A film documentary, showcasing the Qatari Armed Forces defence capabilities and the Emiri guard, highlighting DIMDEX 2014 various wings and functions was also shown during the opening ceremony to the audience of VIP's, international delegations, sponsors and media attending DIMDEX 2014.

Following the opening ceremony, H.E Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani toured the exhibition with officials of the DIMDEX organizing committee where he was shown the Qatari and international exhibitor stands along with latest technologies being displayed at the exhibition.

The first day of DIMDEX also included an official opening for the visiting worships under the auspices of Chief of General Staff of Qatar Armed Forces, Major General Ghaneim bin Shaheen Al-Ghanem.

DIMDEX 2014 include more than 175 exhibitors, over 80 delegations from 53 countries and 20 visiting warships from 12 countries; the exhibitors cover various domains in the Naval and Maritime defence including: Anti-piracy, Diving and Underwater Operations and Vehicles, Maritime Domain Awareness and Technology, Naval Aviation and much more. The exhibition also will showcase international warships and vessels of different classes, including frigates, corvettes, minesweeper as well as the Kilo Class Submarine, berthed at Doha Commercial Port.

DIMDEX has established itself as a leading Naval Defence and Maritime Security exhibition that creates a platform to gather senior representatives from Qatar's armed forces as well as VIP delegations from the Middle East and around the world.
