- Initiated by GSK, Healthcare Connect aims to promote further collaboration with healthcare professionals and leading industry experts

- The Workshop is part of GSK's strategy to be one of the world's most innovative, best performing and trusted healthcare companies

- Healthcare Connect took place across 9 different locations and welcomed more than 1000 attendees

UAE - GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), the global, science-led healthcare company, launched its first series of Healthcare Connect meetings in the GCC.

Held on 8 November in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman and Kuwait; and 10 November in Riyadh Jeddah, Dammam, Bahrain and Qatar, Healthcare Connect is part of the company’s commitment to furthering the healthcare sector in the region and supporting the growth of its specialised local talent pool. The Workshop brought together leading industry experts and healthcare professionals to provide a first-hand insight into GSK’s strategy of delivering its priorities of innovation, performance and trust.

The event also hosted a special session by an innovation hub based in the Netherlands that shared how the healthcare sector is evolving and what the future of healthcare might look like. Attendees deliberated a range of pertinent healthcare issues in areas pioneered by GSK – which includes respiratory, anti-infective, HIV, Immuno-inflammation, vaccines, and transparency in clinical trials.

During the meetings, GSK demonstrated the significant success ensued by its operating model and transparent measures adopted by the business. Back in 2004, the company has led the industry in transparency when it launched the first online Clinical Trial Register, making the results of clinical trials publicly accessible regardless of the results. This was implemented to widen access to information and ultimately bring health benefits to more people around the world.

In 2016 GSK was ranked first in the Access to Medicine Index for the fifth consecutive time, which highlights the company’s efforts to facilitate access to medicine and bring necessary healthcare requirements to its patients, regardless of their geographic location. The company also came out on top of FORTUNE's Change the World 2016 list that recognises companies that are changing the world and have made significant progress in addressing societal problems as part of their company strategy.

Andrew Miles, Vice President and General Manager of GSK in the GCC, commented: “At GSK, we believe that how we do business is as important as what we do, which is why we are transforming how we work and challenging industry norms to better meet our patients’ needs. We are happy to host Healthcare Connect, interact with healthcare professionals in the region, and share our model of trust to elevate the industry at large. GSK remains committed to its goal of becoming one of the most innovative, best performing and trusted companies in the healthcare industry.”

Healthcare Connect took place across 9 different locations and welcomed more than 1000 attendees, including physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
