Four-year maintenance technician training programme is internationally accredited
Dubai, United Arab Emirates: The spirit of achievement and determination that characterizes Dubai Aluminium Company Limited ("DUBAL") resonated strongly within the group of 16 PEC Craft Apprentices who constituted Group 24 of the company's National Programme Maintenance and who officially graduated from the programme on 3 March this year. Epitomizing their self-proclaimed motto "Striving for Excellence", each of the trainees successfully completed the four-year training programme and has been placed, as a competent Maintenance Technician, in one of the mechanical, electrical and instrumentation maintenance areas within DUBAL. For their efforts, each received an internationally accredited qualification Certificate III in Engineering issued by Australian Technical and Future Education ("TAFE") Authority.
Ibrahim Nassir (Executive Vice President: HR & OE & Corporate Services), Mohammed Ali Al Owais (Manager: Organization Development), Mohammad Al Sabri (Acting Head of National Programmes & Development), Tayeb Mohammed Hassan Awadhi (Vice President: Power & Desalination), Abdul Nasser Kalban (General Manager, Power & Desalination Maintenance) and Box Hill representative James Stafford (Executive Manager: International Business Development) were the guests of honour at the graduation ceremony; and also presented the certificates to the trainees. In his speech, Mr Stafford congratulated the Apprentices on their achievements and appreciated DUBAL's training management for their professionalism and competence in delivering the training to the UAE Nationals. The managers, HODs, superintendents and supervisors of DUBAL's various maintenance departments were also present.
DUBAL's apprenticeship programme was launched in 1982 with the objective of nationalising the maintenance workforce by developing young UAE Nationals into competent technicians through tailor-made training programmes. A vocational training programme, it combines structured classroom studies with practical exercises through on-the-job training in various maintenance areas. A total of 454 UAE Nationals for DUBAL have been trained so far; and a further 53 are currently undergoing training within DUBAL. Many of those trained over the years have risen to senior management positions within DUBAL.
