Cairo: On behalf of the German Government, The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH through the Agriculture Innovation Project (AIP) in a collaboration with Arab Women’s Enterprise Fund (AWEF), a women’s economic empowerment development programme, are officially launching the Agri-Digital Startup Competition with Ain Shams University’s Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Creativity Hub (IHub) as the strategic implementing partner.
The Agri-Digital Startup Competition aims to enhance and support the digital agriculture ecosystem in Egypt to empower existing and potential entrepreneurs, particularly youth and women. The main streams of the competition are facilitating farmers' entry into the market, strengthening institutional support, and working towards sustainable productivity and innovation.
The competition targets individuals or teams with solutions in the areas of electronic markets, extension services, or the use of digital applications to acquire other services such as (logistics, payments, and access to finance). These start-ups can be in the idea stage, matured or harvest stages that have a minimum viable product (MVP) or at the proof-of-concept stage (PoC). The winners of the Agri-Digital Startup Competition will receive funds up to EGP 150,000 and will be incubated for business assistance services in areas such as marketing, accounting, financing, management, government contracting, and technical development.
Ms. Yomna Mustafa, Country Director at AWEF said "AWEF is proud to support forward-thinking and collaborative startups in the digital agricultural space in Egypt, with agriculture being one of the major contributors to the Egyptian economy. By spreading awareness on gender inclusivity and building digital financial service ecosystems around women entrepreneurs and value chains, we aim to stimulate sustainable systemic change toward women’s economic inclusion. We hope that interventions like these will spur further innovations among entrepreneurial minds in the digital finance space willing to develop gender-smart strategies and tap into one of Egypt’s most underutilized resources: women.”
