UNIDO at the GCESSE

Due to its preparations for the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the FIFA World Cup 2022, Qatar is witnessing a huge booming in the construction sector as well as a massive increase in its population resulting in considerable indirect energy consumption for housing and transportation.
Despite its status as one of the energy-richest countries in the world, the GCC region in general and Qatar in particular is facing challenges due climate change and Greenhouse effect.
The Global Clean Energy & Sustainability Summit and Exhibition (GCESSE), organized by the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC), in association with Al Atiyyah Foundation, represents the ideal platform for clean energy professionals and experts to network and discuss the most effective alternative sources of energy for the GCC region and worldwide, as well as the future cooperation in combating climate changes.

Concerning the UNIDO participation at the GCESSE, Mohamed EISA, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Representative and Director of the Regional Office in South Africa said: "GCESSE provides an international platform for UNIDO to participate in several events led by distinguished scholars and personalities who are leading the global energy and environmental sustainability areas."
"Guided by GOIC's vision, as a renowned regional institution advancing the cause of inclusive and sustainable industrial development, the GCESSE offers an opportunity for UNIDO to contribute and showcase its success stories to the world," he added.
As for UNIDO's role in the sustainable energy sector, Mr. EISA said: "Together with other sister UN organizations such as UNEP, GCESS facilitate attainment of our obligations vis-a-vis member countries and helps creation of an enabling environment for exploring opportunities of cooperation and joint programming with the countries of the GCC and Qatar for our mutual benefits. UNIDO as a specialized UN agency takes such opportunity to highlight its role as a lead agency for the implementation of the new SDGs and post 2015 agenda, particularly SDG7 on Sustainable Energy for ALL, and SDG9 on Infrastructure, Industrialization and Innovation."
