Sharjah: The Expo Centre Sharjah has recently concluded its visit to Egypt and Jordan with a view to exploring prospects of future cooperation in the international exhibitions and conferences sector, as well as enhancing joint coordination in this vital sector, so as to serve the interest of Arab economy.
The Expo delegation was Headed by HE Saif Mohamed Al Midfa, CEO, Expo Centre Sharjah, accompanied by Mahmoud Al-Jarrah, Secretary-General of The Arab Union for International Exhibitions and Conferences (AUIEC).
The delegation initiated its visit to Egypt through a meeting with HE General Mohammed Al Ameen, Director of the National Company for International Exhibitions and Conferences (NCIEC), where the two sides reviewed the latest developments of exhibitions and conferences industry in the Middle East and means of harnessing this important sector in the sustainable development march.
The tour also included a visit to the Egypt International Exhibition Center (EIEC), where delegation members were briefed on the services provided by the EIEC. Also, a meeting was held with Dr. Ahmed Sobeih, President of the Central Administration of Customs of Cairo, through which, the two sides discussed ways of boosting bilateral cooperation and fostering coordination mechanisms to achieve mutual objectives.
In Jordan, Al Midfa met with Mr. Bater M.S. Kardan Gr, CEO, Abdali Investment & Development PSC, and Mr. Faridon Hartouqa, Secretary-General of the Jordan Investment Commission (JIC).
The meeting tackled horizons of strengthening bilateral cooperation and the mutual coordination to promote exhibitions and conferences industry in Jordan, in addition to means of utilizing Expo Centre Sharjah’s expertise in developing Jordan’s exhibitions industry.
Commenting on the tour, Al Midfa said: “Over the past years and through a multi-faceted strategic plan, Expo Centre Sharjah has managed to transform exhibitions and conferences sector into a key partner in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and economic growth. Exhibitions industry a key pillar in bolstering future industry plans and also an important element in supporting small and medium enterprises, as well as providing employment opportunities for the national workforce and strengthening the various sectors of the economy.
He pointed out this visit to Egypt and Jordan is part of Expo Centre plans for expanding and developing its Arab relations network to serve the integration of the Arab development plans, and to push forward the bilateral relations in exhibitions and conferences domain.
He added that the visit focused on sharing experience, knowledge and information, and exploring ways of coordination mechanisms, pointing to the broad prospects of cooperation whether in hosting important events or providing services and benefits for the investors and exhibitions visitors alike.
“Our meetings in Egypt and Jordan were very fruitful while reaffirming the importance of exhibitions in underpinning developmental plans, realizing sustainable goals, stimulating joint economic cooperation,” said Al Midfa.
He further added: “The successful experience of the UAE and Expo Centre Sharjah makes us more determined to maintain its success and to develop this experience through exchanging ideas with our counterparts in the Arab countries, as well as to transform our expertise to our brotherly and friendly countries. We are open to new partnerships so as to serve the general interest of all parties.”
On the other hand, the Egyptian and Jordanian side hailed the UAE successful experience in exhibitions industry and ways of developing this essential industry over the past years. They also expressed their admiration with Expo Centre’s prestigious reputation in the field of international conferences and the perfect opportunity of exploiting the Centre’s expertise to develop this sector in their countries.
